Time for changes

Originally posted by NinerOne@Mar 23 2005, 12:26 PM i dont know the ins/outs, but did we basically get kicked out of CUSA and allowed them to basically Steal all revenues from NCAA's we had coming to us?
Not exactly. We don't have to pay the exit penalty for them keeping the NCAA money and we have to pay the A-10 $750,000 for entry. It was more or less a break even deal for all parties.

And what ever happened to Clay? I saw at the ECU game he gave us a $25,000 check…but come on man, if you really love our school you can give a little more. He’s probably the highest payed grad from here, why can’t he fork over some money? We can name one of those new buildings Aiken or something…

He needs to save his money for when his two minutes of fame is up, and by my watch that was last year.

I wonder if we get to share the CUSA tournament money this year ? By the way I thought Memphis was a good town for the tournament, it was a big deal for them and it showed. In big cities sometimes you don’t even know a tournament is happening.

Also, when CUSA was formed wasn’t there protection for Lou., i.e, they get to keep a big % of all their tournament money ? It looks like a CUSA pooled check would of been ok this year.

What money? Every indication is that C-USA took a bath on the men's tourney. Read my post above with link to the Memphis newspaper article.

Withers can elevate his game to the next level in his senior year and give the A-10 the third POY in four years.

I like the sound of that!

We need to get some well known people to come to games. Dale Jr was at one game. If we advertised him, we would have a lot more fans show up. Other NASCAR drivers would be good. Clay Aiken would fill the stands also.
Of course, the biggest draw would still be the three point shooting contest. Thats what most of us come to see.

clt attends the games. that is worth at least 1000 fans.

We were shown the door by CUSA because they saw what caused this expansion fiasco in the first place, and neither the Big East nor Us have yet to realize.

Mixed conferences are divided conferences.

The Big East was vulnerable without 12 football teams for a conference title game and more money, plus the fact that their basketball schools own Trained-Geese’s package, their 2 best football schools said bye-bye for more money and stability.

Even a basketball heavy conference like the ACC was smart enough to realize football rules college sports.

The Big East will eventually pick up 4 more football schools or lose their BCS status to the Mountain West.

CUSA knew that Charlotte and St. Louis were not serious about ever adding football, so they would rather have 2 more mediocure 2nd ranked Texas
football schools then a top 40 basketball program.

I think I read where the A-10 alots its NCAA tourney money differently. I think it is a weighted distribution with teams that get to the tourney and advance taking a bigger piece of the pie.

That was also my understanding.

back to the original topic: Judy

I still cannot believe she has a job. She is running this program into the ground, and anybody who can’t see it is blind.

here are the scary facts. The big donors of our program are NOT Niners. Unfortunately, the big donors and our staff are not Niners. This is unlike any other program I know of. We don’t have alot of 50-70 year old alums calling the shots with their wallets (we are not an old enough school). So… the passion at the top is simply not there and its suffocating us. The AD staff is constantly afraid to be aggressive in fear of a resume’ blunder (because its a stepping stone) and our big donors accept mediocrity because its not their school.

we need a Niner AD, or at least more Niners on the senior staff, and the influence needs to be Niners alum- from a financial perspective. This will propel us to the next level that this entire board wants to see. The only direction our non alum financiers and non alum staff is taking us, is the path of least resistance.

there was once a Niner second in charge, and his passion for our school was too much. thats sad.

Judy did an adequate job for 14 years, its time for someone else to get a shot. AD positions should not be lifetime positions, and we need a different vision. Judy has had her shot, and we are basically right back to square one in the A10 and no football in sight. (btw, don’t tell me Woodward held her back on football, its her job to leverage in him to put it forward)

Metro, you made some good points although I still beleive that our basketball program is above what could be expected with the funding that we have.

I can’t see that a niner is going to help us more. Think of what Jeff Mullins did for us. He was already secure and willing to be a part of our program.
By contrast, look at our past two head coaches. We hired a couple of country bumpkins who were ā€œone of usā€ and with a taste of success they were ready to move up to the big time. I think the same would be true of an AD. In my opinion, the idea is to get someone who can get things done for this university.
We also have people involved who hung around the gym and locker room long enough to get a job in the athletic dept. and are not capable of moving the program ahead. We need to clean house and get some qualified people in here.

Who has the power to fire Judy Rose?

Does Judy make more than Bobby?

How much control does Judy have over marketing?

Is Judy related to former coach Lee Rose? Is this how she got the job?

First, you're a tool.

Second, you don’t have a freakin clue what you’re talking about.

Third, what’s this we crap?

Thats exactly the response we hear so much. Few people even want to recognize that there is plenty of money in this area, and that there are those who are competant at raising money for athletic program. Its always "Oh, we don't have the money", never "Lets do what needs to be done to get the necessary funding".
