We pay Hibbs peanuts. Until we are willing to pay more there is no sense in making a change and expecting different results.

May I ask how that list is sorted? :-\
I have a tough time believing that without proof. I also think he’s crazy as hell if it is true and I would also like to know your definition of huge.
BTW, I’m not saying it’s not true- just a little far fetched to me…
To the original question- depends on what we’re gonna do. If it’s just hire someone new for the sake of making a change then no.
If you are trying to change the culture and bring in a proven winner then sure. BUT- we probably aren’t gonna spend enough to do that.
clt asks if he is the right man for our transition to the sec.
If not, go after joe maddon after the Cubs win the Ws.
We would be foolish to fire Hibbs this late in the academic year. There is no way we would have an athlete academic center director in place by the time school starts back up in full force.
But seriously back to the question I would like to see a change but will not be upset if he is given another year to get a full CUSA class through. If we don’t see substantial improvement next year I will definitely be on the fire him bandwagon. I would like to see more resources put into practice facilities since I was corrected on that on the CUSA board however I cannot back giving him more money to get him on par with the rest of the coaches in the conference given his results thus far not in the A10.
I am the biggest of Hibbs homers, and I’m proud to have that reputation.
Who are you going to hire at a similar price point, and get half the production he’s gotten? If you can’t think of a name, you should really consider that when discussing this issue. Hibbs does not earn close to what his peers do financially.
He turned down a huge offer at his alma mater to stay here. And he deserves that money. His alma mater is Wichita State by the way.
Say what you will about the scandal. If you all know the intimate details fire away. If you don’t know the intimate details, don’t use it as evidence.
As a result of that scandal, we have had to rebuild, almost like we hired a new coach. Furthermore, we were recovering from YEARS in one of the worst conferences in division 1 to joining a borderline top 5 league.
He continues to have facilities that although they may be newer, are not on par with what his conference mates and local peers have. A quick drive down 77 to Winthrop and you will see just how far behind we are, even with the Hayes.
If you would have told me we were going to go .500 this year, I’d have laughed in your face. It is really difficult to build pitching depth, and that’s our biggest struggle. It’s like building an offensive line in football. It just takes time. We needed 5 pitchers to dominate the A10. You need more than that in this league. That takes time. Our 1-9 lineup can hang with anybody in our really good league. Our pitchers struggle.
This program is going in the right direction.
Thanks for looking those up. Big improvement with the offense this season. The pitching was pretty disappointing. What stands out to me is the Walks. Up almost 40% from last year. That absolutely killed us this season.
Most of us going into this year thought that a reasonable expectation for it was to make the CUSA tournament and we did. Now we did it by the skin of our teeth, and had some very disappointing performances (A&T and NC State in our highest profile game). I understand why this is split, but am firmly in the camp of seeing how he does at least next year before we do anything drastic.

GREAT information! Thanks.
I have a tough time believing that without proof. I also think he’s crazy as hell if it is true and I would also like to know your definition of huge.
BTW, I’m not saying it’s not true- just a little far fetched to me…
I do not know if there was any talk of money, but Hibbs definitely got the call.
I do not care much for baseball, but Hibbs is a great guy and for some odd reason he remembers me from sharing a table at the Gold Rush Auction many years ago, and he comes over to talk to me anytime he sees me out at lunch, or at a football game, etc. Two of his kids are Charlotte graduates and a third one may end up here in a few years. He has put players at the highest level in the pros. I get that winning counts, but this is a man that is everything we want in a coach except for his W/L record in the third year, in the toughest baseball conference we could possibly be in (SEC offer pending). If we have any thoughts of getting rid of him it should be to double the salary and hire somebody that can turn us into an annual contender for the conference title. Otherwise are we just rolling the dice to move from 8th to 5th?

He was contacted but he was never offered the WSU job.
BTW, Hibbs will tell all of you that he has to do a better job to get the program winning at a more consistent level. He’s told me that personally, along with several others, multiple times over the last few years. No one wants to win more than him. He admits he has to do a better job and doesn’t make any excuses about it. I respect that about him. I think he deserves another year to see this first CUSA recruiting class through.
Until our AD starts to get serious about baseball, it’s always going to be an uphill battle to win in this conference. We don’t pay Hibbs jack squat. He’s probably one of the worst paid coaches south of the Mason Dixon line. I think he makes something around $50,000 salary. ACC schools pay their assistants more than that. We STILL have no indoor hitting facility. That’s pathetic. We lose ground on other programs every single day that it rains. Until we start supporting the baseball program, don’t lay all the blame on Hibbs.
He makes 81K and wife makes 71K. That is their straight salary per the database. So our baseball coach barely makes more than an admin director.

no, simply a question of which is better.
