Today's CLT Observer

I only read the online edition so I may be wrong, but I can’t find a preview or anything for the game today. They have an article on the Dukes coach but that is it. At least give us two lines!!

DUQUESNE (3-22, 1-3) at CHARLOTTE (17-10, 10-4)

7:30 p.m., Halton Arena
The 49ers are 7-6 at home, including three Atlantic 10 losses. Charlotte is tied with Saint Louis for second place and can secure a first-round bye in next week’s conference tournament with a win. Fans attending will receive “player of the year” bobbleheads of former 49ers stars Eddie Basden and DeMarco Johnson. – JIM UTTER

Baseball got a headline as well, as they moved to 8-2 by beating Virginia Tech. Good job there to the Niners and Observer staff.

Who said Mike’s not a great guy?

You asked for 2 sentences…he gave 3.

The school offers 3000 bobbles…Mike gives them to everyone.

“Fans attending will receive “player of the year” bobbleheads of former 49ers stars Eddie Basden and DeMarco Johnson”

WHAT A GREAT PAPER !!!

This is a question perhaps for someone at Charlotte.com moreso than you, but you have the pull to make this happen: the dividing lines between game capsules are always in the wrong spot - they appear after the game headline, dividing the headline and the story body incorrectly. I feel the dividing lines are better in between different games, keeping the bold headline with the plain text body, then dividing line, bold headline for the next game … otherwise, the headline for the 2nd game appears within the same divided portion of the page as the 1st game’s capsule.

See the example I have cut and pasted below. The game headlines appear to fit with the text directly above them in the dividing lines.

1 DUKE (27-1, 14-0) at FLORIDA STATE (17-8, 7-7)
7 p.m., ESPN

Florida State, which needs a marquee victory to solidify its NCAA tournament resume, lost in overtime at Duke on Feb. 4. Center Alexander Johnson is tough enough to stand up to Duke’s Shelden Williams, and Florida State’s superior athletes can hurt the Blue Devils in transition. To win the ACC contest, Duke might need J.J. Redick to shake off two straight mediocre performances. -- KEN TYSIAC

CLEMSON (16-11, 5-9) at VIRGINIA TECH (14-13, 4-10)

7 p.m., Cassell Coliseum

After a series of narrow losses, the Tigers hit the road after hammering Virginia by 26 in their most recent game. Clemson can further solidify its postseason status with a victory against the Hokies, who have struggled in their second ACC season. – RON GREEN JR.

That text is picked up directly from the paper, and there’s a piece of coding there in the newspaper’s system that puts that dividing line in there. Online doesn’t touch most of the copy that appears there, just picks it up straight from us. To make it look like it does in the paper, we have to have that piece of coding, so it’s probably not something we can fix. It does make more sense the way you are talking about, though.
