The Commitment Project: A study of top-100 recruit behavior
Interesting read and made me mad all over again at the whole Beasley issue. The stats are there to show that this is a growing issue, but what causes it?
Recruiting is now an industry where fans will pay for website memberships and news updates and when you add that to high profile stars getting noticed at young ages and being promoted (ie Lebron) as the next coming, it leads to a lot of ego and therefore dumb decisions to commit/decommit/transfer etc. These KIDS think they deserve something and are not willing to work for it. As soon as something doesn’t go their way, they pout and cry and leave or become a ‘cancer’ to the remaining team members (ie Spears).
I don’t see this getting any better any time soon.
There was another link on that page. The Ten Most Painful Decommits. Micheal Beasley coming in at #2. Ouch!
However, SI is partly contributing to the problem with their list. They put Austin Rivers on the list of top 10 most painful, yet he hasn’t even played a single game on the college level.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1108/cbb.devastating.decommits/content.1.html
Most likely before whoever put that list together was born in the 60’s or early 70’s Davidson had a player decommit and attend UNC-Ch instead. I don’t remember if it was Charlie Scott or not, but the guy ended up making the shot that sent Davidson packing in the NCAA tournament. Now THAT is a painful decommitment.
Super awesome, looking back on it with hindsight, that this fool never wore a Niner jersey. What a clusterf*** he’s become.
Lashing out in all directions, Beasley says that at age 15 he promised to take his talents to UNC-Charlotte. He made this promise, he claims, as UNC-Charlotte hired Dalonte Hill, one of Malone's assistant coaches at D.C. Assault, at a salary of $60,000.A few years and four high schools later, Beasley agreed to accept an offer from Bob Huggins to play at Kansas State. Beasley and attorney Smith assert in the lawsuit that Huggins made a package offer to Beasley and Hill, claiming “Huggins of Kansas State wanted Beasley, so he offered Hill an assistant coaching job at Kansas State with a salary that ended up being in excess of $420,000.” The lawsuit continues, “Hill took the job, and Beasley went to Kansas State.”

Celticslife.com: What the Hell Happened to…Charlie Scott?
BTW, I’ve always heard that Al Wood was just as close to committing to UNCC before inking with the Holes.
Thanks, Run. I enjoyed reading that article.
