Tourney with Winthrop and Davidson
Will Charlotte fans pull for either Davidson or Winthrop in the upcoming NCAA Tourney? If so will you do it quietly or out in the open?

The better these two teams do, the worse Charlotte looks. I know Charlotte has had success leading to the tourney in years past, if either of these two teams makes it past the first round I would hate to see the backlash on this board and in the local paper.
I will be pulling for both, because I will like to see the underdog do good. Also, like a previous poster said the better Davidson does, the better our game against them next year will be (Although, I will go ahead and say they will be the overwhelming favorites next year with Stephan Curry back.)

I also will be pulling for Winthrop because if they win a few games then more than likely more big schools will want to schedule them for a non-con home game next year which will increase their RPI (especially if they can pull out some wins) which will help next year opponent High Point’s RPI. (Also as mentioned before I like to see the little guy upset goliath).

What would be great if an UNC-CH or Duke met up with Winthrop or Davidson and Winthrop or Davidson pulls the upset! You can go ahead and start pouring the Wine on that one.

I would add App St & ECU as well…all of us local schools (ECU has a lot of local representation) that have to fight for exposure in ACC land…let’s band together and do this every year.

Build our own tradition with like schools

Winthrop
Davidson
ECU
App St
Charlotte

Alot of local interest with those schools represented…could be a lot of fun from a fan perspective.

Gardner Webb is in the A-Sun.
And what about UNCG, UNCW, & UNCA?
WCU, NCCU, WSSU, SC St., Coastal Carolina, & NCA&T?
Furman, CofC, Charleston S.?
It could be a Carolina Championship for those not in BCS conferences.

I like this. Throw in another non-ACC school, South Carolina, to even it out to 6 teams. Have each team play 2 games over a weekend in November. Make sure conference teams don’t play each other and keep us from playing Davidson, so we can keep our home and home series going.

Point taken. Louisville, UNC-Chapel Hill and Virginia didn’t help us much in UNC Asheville’s case. Then again, they couldn’t win but 8 D-I games. :unhappy:

Yea I have no doubt that Winthrop could pull it out against the big boys, hell it almost happened twice this year. See Wisconsin and UNC-CH.

Charlotte is on a much higher level than these school mentioned above. I am sensing (I am hoping) that you are being sarcastic. A few down years should not lead to you lowering your standards. What about the renewal of the So. Ill series, does that begin next year. Those are the type of games Charlotte should be trying to schedule, not a home and home w/ Queens University.

I really do like the idea of the 5 constant teams of: Winthrop, Davidson, Charlotte, ECU and App St. in a yearly tourney.

Then, we could open up 3 spots each year to rotate.
College of Charleston, South Carolina, Clemson, Wake…as far as the local ACC teams…I would only exclude the Big 3.

Or…if that’s too much for a Pre-Season tourney, we could do a 4 team Tourney (like the old Diet Pepsi TOC) with Charlotte, Davidson and Winthrop and rotate ECU & App St every other year.

I just think the fan turnout would be huge and all of the teams would lay it all out for local pride and bragging rights. I think it’s just what we need here now especially. Something to get excited about (especially the local fans/market) in Basketball each year now that Cincy, Memphis and Louisville games are no more.

Would such a preseason tournament effectively prevent the Niners from participating in any other preseason tournament? Isn’t there a limit of one to the number of preseason tournaments allowed? Also, does this affect in-season tournaments?

I’m not sure App would work because it would be possible for App and Davidson to play each other 3 or 4 times in a season. If they meet up twice in the regular season every year anyway, then meet in this tournament championship, and then in the socon championship. I’m not sure fans or the league would want to see their teams match up 4 times in a season. I think UNCW, Charlotte, Davidson, ECU, and Winthrop would be more likely if something like this were to ever occur.

YES! I have been pushing for this for a logn time. I think there should be like a preseason Carolina’s Tourny, with teams from all over NC and SC.
