I heard Bob McKillop on the radio yesterday and he mentioned that he had talked to Lutz and Marshall at Winthop about having a local preseason tourney involving Winthrop, Davidson, and Charlotte. I’m not sure how it would work out, but it’s something interesting to talk about. I would love to have Winthop on the schedule. It would be better than watching us play St. Bonaventure and Fordham.
A great idea if we can beat both team. Terrible idea if we have a year like this when we would probably drop 2 games.
Great idea but unless you have a good local sponsor to provide a good monetary guarantee for the teams it would never fly. The schools would not want to give up/divide their home game receipts for 2 games.

I’m not sure about this but, McKillop said that this Tourney wouldn’t count against your # of games played, so I guess you could still get your 2 home games plus your split on whatever the Tourney makes. I’m not sure on the rules for this though.
Will Charlotte fans pull for either Davidson or Winthrop in the upcoming NCAA Tourney? If so will you do it quietly or out in the open?
The better these two teams do, the worse Charlotte looks. I know Charlotte has had success leading to the tourney in years past, if either of these two teams makes it past the first round I would hate to see the backlash on this board and in the local paper.

Well…get ready for the “backlash” cause you’ll get plenty…deservedly so!
You can listen to the interview on WFNZ’s website. He talks about the Tournament towards the end of the interview. He said Charlotte, Winthrop, and Davidson would host an 8 team tournament and that he has had talks with the Charlotte Sports Commision about this.
By the way, why was this thread moved??
I would rather play Winthrop after we have turned the program around. Right now, they would just thump us which would be a morale killer.
In the early 90’s, we played College of Charleston a couple of times and lost badly. We evidently put them on the do not play list after that.
I could see that happening with Winthop if we took a chance on playing them.

Winthrop loses 3 starters this season, so they might be a better match up next season.

Given Kansas’ history of choking should KSU get in and last longer than Kansas what will be the backlash in Lawrence? That’s what you should be worrying about. Not what we’re worrying about.
Once again someone so close minded to the fact that other fans actually read your board and all you can do is bash them. My question is valid and the 7 or so replies before made no mention that I am a Kansas fan. Lighten up, so the Niners were down this year does that mean you are not going to watch the tourney?
Will Charlotte fans pull for either Davidson or Winthrop in the upcoming NCAA Tourney? If so will you do it quietly or out in the open?I will pull for Davidson. The better Davidson does the better our series gets with them and thats a yearly opponent. Besides that, I like their program in general and I like what this team this year has accomplished. That 28pt schlacking I witnessed @Davidson this year changed my whole Niner season outlook.
Winthrop just isn’t really on my radar since I dont have a relationship to their program as a Niner fan.

I went to the first two rounds in the Boro last year and saw Winthrop get screwed. So I am all for Winthrop. If they get a 9-11 seed they will be the G Mason of this tourny. Don’t sleep on them because they are fun to watch.

It’s not that. It’s just you’re a turncoat. Nothing personal. They all get the same treatment.
I like Bob McKillop but I don’t want Davidson fans to enjoy success so I’m pulling for Winthrop before Davidson. Marshall has one milli-iota more ambition than McKillop so it’d suit him best if they won a game. It wouldn’t really have an affect on Davidson’s program since unlike Stanford, they won’t lower admission standards for athletes.

Charleston’s first ever game in DI was at the Mine Shaft. They eeked out an upset. Soon after that they were a perennial tournament team, so the loss was not as bad as first seemed.
I love the idea of a Charlotte/Rock Hill tourney. You guys are assuming that Charlotte is going to reamin this bad. I disagree with that notion. Also, Davidson and Winthrop are having stellar seasons by their standards. I say we take them most years. Especially if Marshall keeps up this success. He’ll eventualy give in to some BCS school offering 6 figures.
I have no qualms rooting for Davidson & Winthrop in the Tourney.

Finally! We agree! Cats chasing dogs, Coke better than Pepsi, rain falling up, Niners play defense…
I would love to have Winthop on the schedule. It would be better than watching us play St. Bonaventure and Richmond.
fixed.
It’s a great idea. The 5 teams in Philadelphia play each other every year and that’s been a successful tradition.
I’ll root for Davidson & Winthrop in the tournament in the open. I’m not scared of backlash in the newspaper. In fact, I kind of expect it on a regular basis.
Besides, if we play both teams next year - then it would be to our benefit if they performed well.
Pork Chop.
You were being ironic, which means you really like Pepsi better than Coke. How is that possible?
Actually I do like Coke better, but Sam Jackson says a similar line in Pulp Fiction. Or maybe it was Bill Murray in Ghost Busters. Perhaps I married and bastradized both lines. Married and bastardized? Theres’s a paradox fer ya.
