If any of you were around, Travis Diener is the kid that just about died on our court a couple of years back when he was crushed by Calvin Clemmons. Clemmons went for a fake and came down on top of Diener. They thought he was injured pretty seriously. The Niners led off Sportscenter that night (have we ever been the lead story on Sportscenter again?).
Any real reason for posting this? Not so much, just reliving a Niner moment.
Hadn’t heard that name in a while. I remember that game you are talking about. I was there & it was a hard hit.
My greatest Diener memory was just how damn many of them played basketball.
Drake Diener, Drew Diener, Travis Diener and a girl who played for a C-USA team. Some are cousins, some are brother/sister, but I don’t remember their family tree.
I do think one season I saw all 4 Dieners play at Halton within about a 3-4 week span.
I looked for a video of the incident, but couldn’t find one…
The injury was much less severe than initially though. At first, they thought it was really bad. He laid on the court for about 10 minutes, but just ended up with a severe, severe case of whiplash. Cal’s weight was listed at 250, but it was a little more. And all of that 250 sat down on Travis’ shoulders.
