Tyler Best MIA? Tory Reed at NKU

The former Niner supposedly transferred to Evansville, but he apparently never enrolled at the MVC school. Somebody forgot to tell Gregg Doyel that, though, as he lists Best as a 2nd-team all-MVC and the Valley’s Newcomer of the Year in Sportsline’s preview of the Missouri Valley Conference!!!

Best…Niparavicius…Neely…Whitehead…and the list goes on…

Someone mentioned he was at a JUCO now. Yep, Apex found him in Paris, TX.

Paris Junior College

Found something about another former Niner - Tory Reed. He’s listed as a probable starter for Northern Kentucky, which is playing Cincy in an exhibition tonight.

From UCBearcats.com: FAMILIAR FACE: Though Northern Kentucky will have probably have three new starters, one of those will be a familiar face. Tory Reed, a 6-8 senior from Cleveland, played at Charlotte for three seasons before transferring to NKU.

Interesting, also didn’t we originally get Best after he committed to Northern Kentucky ?

It was ETSU I believe.

GO NINERS!!!

He had committed to Eastern Kentucky.

From 2002:

Tyler Best, a 6-9 PF/C from Lafayette (IN ) Central Catholic, who All Star Sports considers a Top 170 nationally rated player, has verbally committed to Charlotte.

Best, who originally committed to Eastern Kentucky last year, but later reneged, is an improving frontcourt player with a lot of potential.

Yeah, sure.

the MVC must suck serious ass if Tyler Best is the newcomer of the year

Just sorta shows that Gregg Doyel and Tony Mejia haven't really done their homework in writing these conference previews.

BTW, here’s how Tory Reed did against Cincinnati last night in the Bearcats win over Northern Kentucky:

TORY REED’S BOX SCORE
6 points (3-6 FG / 0-0 FT)
5 rebounds
1 assist
6 turnovers
5 personal fouls
23 minutes played

Looks like some things don’t change.

Here’s Matas’ stats from 2003 at weber st.

GP MIN/G FG % 3-PT % FT % STL/G TO/G REB/G AST/G BLK/G PTS/G
11 7.5 . 235 .250 .636 0.1 0.7 2.0 0.4 0.3 1.5

interesting note… you might be able to see him at least warmup when Weber St plays Nov 27 at Winthrop or 29th at Elon.

Since Matas isn't on Weber State's 2004-05 roster, then probably not... :P

If you search long enough…

Lithuanian center Matas Niparavicius was expected to contribute for the [Weber State] Wildcats this season, but he informed [Coach Joe] Cravens a couple of days before school started that he wasn’t returning. Niparavicius signed a pro contract with an unidentified team overseas.

That unidentified team is apparently a pro team in Lithuania, the Neptūnas:

Looks like he’s averaging 10 ppg for them. BTW, he’s listed as Mantas…
