Watch us start killing it in A10 play. Then, what everyone wants will happen⦠conference shuffle. Weāll end up in another conference and everything Major is [hopefully] developing to play a10 style will be out the window.
I donāt see how using tall athletic players who play great defense is a strategy specific to the A10. I figure that would get it done in any conferenceā¦
Yes, and no. True, great defense should win anywhere, but I wouldnāt say our players play āgreatā defense. We are getting better every game and there is serious upside as weāve seen, but we have to remember Major is getting average players with better than average defensive abilities (if he signs more players like Henry, I will revise this entire statement) who play against other average players (usually). That formula means we should win more battles than we lose in the end, but our guys can still be spanked once the opponentās offensive sets and abilities rise above a certain level. A conference with more teams with better offenses would mean less success for us because we canāt shut them down enough to make up for our lack of offense.
I just mean that the a10 is a guard heavy league. Major seems to be focusing on tall-athletic guards as a means of defending against other guards⦠I assume (and I believe it is reasonable to do so) thatās because he seeās benefit to having that in this league specifically.
But youāre right. A winner is a winner. I just feel like our style is becoming more and more a10-like. I just get that feeling.

In reading the weekly A-10 update on USAToday.com, reminded that UMass is dealing with injuries, so that could be a factor in tomorrowās game. Out are 6-8/220 F Sampson Carter (8.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) for the season and 6-9/250 F Cady Lalanne (6.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg) until at least February. In addition, 6-7/225 F Matt Hill has only played in a couple of games due to injury, though heās apparently been cleared to start playing again. Anyway, looks like DK & Co. are down to 8 for this game.
I was at the St Joe game and Thorne was in uniform, warming up and on the bench, it seemed as if he was ready to go if called on.
He has played 3 min. in one game this year but I still believe he is redshirting. I have been trying to find out if this is official or not and no one seems to know.
My sources told me this was a done deal. Although they have not been 100% accurate in the past. However they do tend to be solid most of the time. Some one should ask at the next Major Show!
Oh come on Alan! If the fans are unsure all it would take is a simple āYesā or āNoā. (of course this would lead to subsequant other questions, but he is the head coach.)
Not to make too much of this but that is rather Roy Willams of him isnāt it?
If a kid is redshirting it is customary that an official statement would come out to clarify that.
Being that I have not seen or heard any official statement it is fair to conclude that MAJOR SIZE KING may have missed the deadline to officially redshirt Thorne.

Not always. Technically red shirts are āawardedā at the end of the season, even if it is obvious that he wonāt be playing at all.
However, in Thorneās case heāll need to be given a medical redshirt, since they burned his true redshirt at Lamar. Iām going to assume they know this, because otherwise someone dropped the ball.
