again, needs its own topic. this program was disbanded 3 years ago. Now this in the works. #Leadership
Embarassing…
why embarrassing?
The stadium rendering is beautiful, hats off to UAB, but it is embarrassing as a 49er that we have not expanded our stadium, and I have not heard anything about any upgrade/expansion, 5 years in…
I like shitting on us as much as anyone, but UAB is not paying a dime for this.
The city and county rallied behind UAB and are building them a stadium.

we had 14 people at our last couple of games, why the expansion talk at this point?
Agreed. We can’t give tix away at this point. Expansion talk is futile. It’s the least of our worries at this point.
maybe my message is blurry, not clear
when you have bonafide leaders, you can go from no team to selling 25,000 per game 8 wins, bowl game, and be nominated for an ESPY for comeback of the year. Then begin plans for real stadium.
instead we have 1-11, and also go public that 4 wins last year was overachieving, and put chancellor on radio to discuss soccer.
the comparison is really against programs, not attendance
I think it may have been Sorenson at one point during the #firejudyrose campaign (if it was someone else pardon me) that said that we had lost the city at some point during Judy’s tenure. That statement is accurate, and the above shows you what can happen when you don’t “lose” your home city. If any fan base deserves to have good things happen to them it’s the Blazers, I can’t wait to take my first road trip to their new stadium once it’s up and running.
clt does not believe that there is a westin in dtown birmingham

UAB averaged 10k per year for a very long time before recently. With leadership willing to stand up to the people holding you down, it can happen.
Great Point regarding leadership. UAB and UNC Charlotte are similar in a lot of ways. We have grown up together in the same conferences and the schools are of similar size. Well, actually, UAB has 20,000 students and Charlotte has 30,000. They are in the shadow of the University of Alabama and we are in the shadow of the University of North Carolina.
The difference is in their affiliation with their local city, Birmingham. We are disconnected. They have a medical school and other professional schools. We keep punting at every opportunity and disconnecting ourselves from our local community.
The opportunities to bring home programs that would give us instant credibility keep getting swept under the rug. We are content with accepting mediocrity and being complacent. Birmingham keeps raising the bar and challenging their big brother, the University of Alabama. I am now a huge fan of UAB. Let’s give the city of Charlotte and surrounding area a bona fide reason to become fans of the University of Charlotte. I am tired of us being weak in the knee.
How many people are aware that we are allowing Chapel Hill to start a medical school in our front yard? We passed on a Law School and allowed a private business to come in. They were not successful but it would have been at the University of Charlotte.
We have no pharmacy school, no Dental School, no veterinary school. How many people are aware that a School of Optometry is opening up in our front yard very soon. Of course, it will not be at the University of Charlotte but rather Wingate University. Are you kidding me?
We should have the drive, the connections, and the ability to bring on a School of Optometry. There is not currently one in the entire state of North Carolina. In athletics, a good defense often leads to a strong offense. Similarly, a strong academic University enhances athletics. And, Athletics enhances academics. There must be balance.
Give the people of Charlotte and surrounding area a reason to pull for us. Give them a reason to believe in US. Give young students a reason to believe that the University of Charlotte should be their primary choice.
I am sick and tired of our leadership accepting complacency. I am certain they are being discouraged at every opportunity to raise the bar. I am also certain that they are all extremely capable of making things happen. If they looked out the window and saw a deep desire from students, alumni, faculty, staff, city leaders and the general population as a whole, they would find a way to win and be willing to fight for it.
I applaud everyone on this forum and beyond that is attempting to make a difference. Let’s be professional, diplomatic and tactful in our approach but be willing to fight on both fronts, athletics and academics. Charlotte is a hidden gem with unlimited potential. Let’s go make it happen!

clt says UAb has the advantage of being in Birmingham.
If I recall correctly UAB action and decisions actually have to go THRU Bama. Their situation is way worse than ours, yet they have found a way to thrive. If they can do it then we can.
Is UAB an actual Bama chapter school? Otherwise why would they have to go through Bama?
I’m envious that even with the UofA tie in, name wise, they’ve still been successful with UAB branding. I never think UofA when I think UAB.

Yes and lucky for UAB that Bama never goes by term UA. Wereas here the term UNC is a brand. Lucky break for UAB.
Let’s not jump the gun…they have “thrived” for one comeback season so far. They were in a MUCH worse position than us in almost all respects until their shutdown and eventual reboot.
