UAB Postgame
Not to pick on Clayton but he has been to the line 82 times this season which leads the team by far. After the 0-5 debacle tonight, he is now at 40% on the season. Hard to prevail in close games with a liability like that.
The truth sometimes hurts. Willie is 1-12 FT in his last two games. Two games we lost in overtime. If Willie could have rattled in on more FT per game, we win both without going to OT. Why the coaches don’t tell him to forget everything he thinks he knows about shooting FTs then force him to change his whole routine is beyond me. I don’t get it.

Dorn and woods with great games. Woods 3/3 from 3. Why he only had 3 3-point attempts is beyond me. Wtf. Shoot the damn ball.
We hit 2/3 of our 3 pointers but only attempted 12 total. We avg about 18.
My point is, why isn’t our best 3 pt shooter who hit his first 3 3s not taking more and more 3s? UAB Norton attempted 11 3s hitting 6. I would rather woods be 6/11 than 3/3.
An additional 3 for 8 from 3 is pretty much a wash when you are shooting over 50% from the field, and there is less likelihood for fouls on contact. I like shooting the 3 when it is there, but if you shoot it because you are a good shooter you will end up with some nights where you shoot 1 for 8.

NWA, unfortunately, I think we may be finding out soon :frowning:
How many times can we play this same game? Down early, come from behind to take the lead, then wither down the stretch. An extra made free throw here, a defensive stop there, and we walk out with a W. I know it’s cliche, but we just don’t know how to win.

Talent and effort are there, fundamentals and focus are not. Five years is long enough. Time to move on.
This is spot on!!!

At least we’re getting to see what people were clamoring for. Odom is head coach and he changed the line up. It’s amazing what it has done for us!

I think at this point we should just tank the rest of the season so we get a better draft pick…

I found a way to enjoy the games again… Watched a movie on Netflix and then checked the score at 11:00…

I did a quick check on The Google to find out what percentage of college games go to overtime, but found nothing. In the NBA it is 6%. The Niners are at 28% this year. That seems significant, and not in a good way.

Been doing this all year, my sanity has been restored.

Been doing that for a couple of years. It’s better to get that “Damnit” feeling for just a second than for an entire two hour game.

I’m sad at how apathetic I’ve become, but I’m honestly happier by caring less

Yeah, that’s pretty crazy, but if we are coming back to force overtime I’d still prefer that over losing in regulation. Perhaps this really just attests to our inability to find our game early.

I was originally going to go to this game but my car was in the shop. Perhaps it was for the best. So we started a guard heavy lineup tonight? Can anyone explains Woods’ 3 point selection? Is he just shy or is he not very good at getting open? Or is he good at getting open but we just don’t pass it to him?

Someone correct me if I am wrong - but of the 3 he hit 2 were just him. One was at the close of the half and one he stepped back, was wide open and hit it. I can’t recall the third. It doesn’t seem to me that we are running anything to get him the ball in shooting position on a very regular basis.

I have seen Woods pass up a lot of 3s this year simply because he didn’t want to take the shot. I am ok with a good shooter passing some of them up than a bad shooter to keep working on their brick house.

We have fallen behind early in most every game this year, but typically come back either in the first half or early second.
HOWEVER, we have blown 6-point leads in the last 3 minutes or so of these last 2 games AND missed opportunities to win both with last possessions. Not exactly what I call “coming back” to force OT. More like blowing late leads and stumbling into OT.

Talk about playing to the level of your competition…

Woods passes up on a lot of 3 pt attempts. Almost like the wind has to be right for him to pull the trigger from behind the arc. I don’t want him shooting all the time with a hand in his face but when he has space, he has to shoot it. Id rather this than Clayton getting fouled going to the FT line, or Thorne off balanced hook and maybe a FT attempt. Good 3 pt shooters should take open 3s. that said, if he’s having an off night starting 0-4, I’m fine with him passing up semi-open looks. Woods having a 3/3 night feels like we left points on the court.

Reluctance to pull the trigger is part of being a freshman imo. Relying on the hot man also goes against this staff’s philosophy as well considering they want to pound the ball inside. I’d like to see the staff encouraging him to shoot when he is on a streak but part of me feels they would rather have Willie get fouled or Thorne throwing up that hook.
