UMASS Postgame

51 rebounds = amazing. that includes the team rebs as well.

Great comeback. Great win. I’m hoarse and I didn’t even go to the game.

you are a gracious man...GO NINERS!!!

PS. Hope you get in you deserve it

Seconded.

Passion/Heart/Confidence > Fresh Legs

I thnk these boys believe in a theory I tried to incorporate back in my days of highschool track… if you dont stop, your legs dont have time to hurt.

quick observations (I’m really, really tired)

-Dayton fans were wandering around the city like sad zombies. kinda felt bad for them.

-Temple fans chanted ā€˜We Want U-Mass!’ after their win vs. La Salle.

-UMass has some talented shooters. In the warmups, there was this massive crowd of players just throwing up basketballs and everything was going in. On Charlotte’s side, Dewhurst looked a lot better in warmups. Curiously, Mack did not shoot well in warmups at all.

-Harris was really assertive (as well as Mack). The shouting and the support made you feel like you were watching ā€˜Band of Brothers’ or something. I still have no idea how they won that battle.

-The most surreal moment was watching some fan wearing a Tar Heels hat decide to run over to congratulate Charlotte for their win.

-St. Joe’s fans want to watch their hated city rivals lose. Depending on how the St. Joes/Xavier game goes - there may be some fans booing Temple for us during our game.

My favorite part of the SportsCenter hightlights (35 minutes into the show) was Bobby HIGH STEPPING down the sideline as the threes were raining. That really needs to be preserved in a YouTube video.

Priceless.

A 3-pointer by Lowe stretched the lead to 18, but Charlotte rallied as Mack scored 16 points in a 29-8 spurt that got the 49ers back in the game.
Think about that. we outscored 'em nearly 4 to 1; Mack doubled them up all by himself. . . All in less than nine minutes. And we only scored 19 in the entire first half. Wow.

This has got to be one of THE greatest comebacks in Niner lore. It took two comebacks in one game.

What a turnaround. First half was really hard to watch. I actually flipped over to Lost a couple times because I couldn’t tolerate seeing UMASS drain shot after shot. But great adjustment at the half by Bobby. It would have been easy for our guys to throw in the towel after down that much at the half. But to regroup and fight back says a lot about them. Win or lose tonight, these past two games have gone a long way to mature this team. Yes, we’ll miss the heck out of Leemire next year but I feel much better about next season after seeing the last few games.

Hope we can gut one out tonight. It will be a war and I hope we can hold up, physically. I certainly like our chances given how we’ve played so far. Our frontcourt will have to play a solid game and stay out of foul trouble. And of course, win the battle of the boards again. Coley was phenomenal (in Jim Rome’s voice) last night. He needs to have another double-double tonight.

WOW, WOW, WOW. Impressive win/comeback.

Will anyone have a torrent of this game? There were times I just couldn’t stomach it.

I wonder what UMASS’ message board looks like? If that kind of thing happened to us (Dayton last year) this place would be in CHAOS.

Banter relative to Charlotte starts on the page I hope I linked.

To come back down 17 at half and take the lead 9 minutes into the second half = AWESOME!!!

To come back, a second time, after UMASS went up 9 with 5 minutes to play = AMAZING!!!

As it has become popular to say its that OL’ LUTZ MAGIC!

The post-mortem at the UMass board I linked is as gruesome as can be expected. I feel for them because as with Rhody, we know exactly how they feel to get kicked in the stomach like that. Really no insults towards our team, a compliment or two, but mostly the kind of self-eviscerating we’re famous for. I definitely don’t have any desire to kick them while they’re down or even give them the ā€˜good game’ line.

Not that I am complaining, but Travis Ford (UMass coach) should be shot for not having that guy be on Lee like ā€œWinnie the Pooh on a Honey Potā€ (yeah, I know there are other phrases, but I figured you’d get the point).
If that defender did not know there was about a 80% chance Lee was gonna shoot the ball, then he must have not been paying attention in film… and I think, ultimately that falls on the coach for not reminding the team of what to expect with 20 seconds or so on the clock and even fewer on the shot clock. They should know about Lee’s ā€œfakeā€, so that dude should not have even let Lee breathe… Poor coaching at it’s finest.

Anyone see Forbes (I think it was him) flopping on the court like a fish out of water after the buzzer sounded? I don’t know him from Adam, but one would think the POY in the league would have better sportsmanship than that…

The article on the official A-10 site says he left the court without shaking hands with anyone. On the other hand, what a tough loss to stomach. I don’t think that excuses it, but I won’t be too critical.

Oh yeah, I forgot he was POY… LOL He left the floor with out shaking hands.

That’s why learning how to lose, of which we have had our share, is just as important as learning how to win. Go Niners. Take it all. You deserve it.:49ers: Lee for MVP! The true A10 POY!

This game reminded me of the Maryland game with a bettr outcome… terrible first half, great second half.

Hopefully we play like we did after that loss (beat Clem, Temple, and St. Joes).
