I wonder which state is missing.
clt would guess wyoming
Tomorrow, September 11th, marks the 50th anniversary of the crash of Eastern Air Lines flight #212 in Charlotte. Among those who died in the accident was UNCC engineering professor Walt Norem, one of two Charlotteans on that fateful journey that originated in Charleston, SC.
I was in high school when the crash happened and can still remember the principal coming on the PA to announce it. The thing I recall vividly was hearing the accident site was near NC 49 and initially thinking of University City Blvd and not the area out near the airport.
The Charlotte Observer is running a 5-part series on the tragedy:
A section devoted to Dr. Norem is included in the following campus history:
Steven Colbertās father and two brothers also died in that crash. Maybe from here on in we should just skip directly from Sept 10 to Sept 12.
I remember that day vividly. I was working as a Psych Tech at then Charlotte Memorial Hospital. It was a payday and I was off that day. I went in early to pick up my paycheck and on the way home, I heard about the crash on the radio. Needless to say, the hospital was very busy later that day, but I was not there, and my expertise, training, and job did not involve those injured who were brought to CMH for treatment. Sad day. Iāll never forget 9-11 for that and more recent reasons.
The Wall Street Journalās 2025 top 500 US colleges includes 13 NC schools:
Davidson is 10? Who made this list?
FWIW, last yearās WSJ rankings had UNCC at #235 while Davidson was #30, with Duke highest NC school at #10.
Who can check that list and find if there is a single university ranked worse than us that has a med school? Iāll bet not.
The only reason I can fathom for ECU to be ahead of us is their med school.
Itās so frustrating.
Per the N&O piece:
So having a medical school - which Davidson, Elon, and NC State do not - isnāt paramount to this list.
No. But I bet having a med school pulls up your rankings. Doesnāt mean you cannot have a high ranking without one.
FWIW, the WSJ list is a ranking of undergraduate schools.
Hereās the top 100 if anyone wants to have at it:
FWIW apparently schools can buy there way up many of these lists. No idea if thats the case with WSJ though.
FWIW via Siena College of NY:
Siena #69 per WSJ. No med school.
clt says that is bigly news!!
