I agree to disagree. 30,000 students and we canāt constantly fill a 15,000 seat stadium?
The students have generally filled their side of the stadium so I donāt know why youāre dragging them.
The general public and the alums donāt show up, but we havenāt given them a reason to.
Students do not fill a football stadium, thatās basketball.
Athletics charging a ton extra for specific games is a good way to not sell out. I have a friend who is a wake season ticket holder looking to bring his family down for the JMU game. Didnāt want to pay more than they would for a Wake game. Granted this was prior to the bogo coming out but itās still ridicoulous.
Learned something new:
2nd largest enrollment behind NCSU, and as that article earlier this week pointed out, we have pretty much entirely shed the commuter school stereotype as over 70% of our students arenāt even from the county, let alone commuters.
Definitely a huge change from my time there. We have a larger enrollment and even more kids living on or adjacent to campus than the University of Tennessee did when I went to grad school there.
Thatās really cool to see.
Huge difference from when I was there. Of course, at that time there were no dorms or apartments anywhere around.
We need a marketing campaign to ditch the image though. Still very pervasive, if not completely ill informed opinion of us amongst the general public.
Yeah our students have been very solid in football and basketball the last few years. Canāt complain about their turnout for the most part.
Really? 31,000 students now. The percentage of attendees at athletic events is significantly low. I know those who are attending are very supportive and into the games, but with a student body this large Iād expect and like to see many more asses in seats.
Itās part generational. Itās part not having great success in the revenue sports. I did think the students were great at basketball last year.
clt says we have a bigly amount of grad and doctorate students, they arenāt going to games
We canāt consistently sell out 9,000 alumni/fan seating and weāre complaining about the students
Ok. Iāll complain about the alums too. We have multiple thousands in the area and they donāt attend either. Itās beyond sad. As for me Iāll be at as many games as possible. Hope others will too.
clt says houston has 46k students and allocates 5k for students
During the football feasibility meetings it was stated that the most you should expect from your student body was roughly 1/3 of your student body.
If we judge by that around 10k is the most we should expect from our student body. That would mean considering the performance of our teams our students are likely over performing.
