UNC Charlotte Television Network

This morning I was flipping through channels when I saw David Dunn doing an interview with Nick McEntire. The interview itself was interesting, I didn’t know Nick and some other high University officials here went to Philadelphia to reach out to our alumni there, went to the St. Joe’s game, and were planning on doing the same thing for the upcoming GW game where he said we had something like 2,500 alumni there(obviously a little dated show). But something that was even more intriguing was the show itself. It was very professional, a great set, talked about important issues, especially the new alumni house. But I just really wanted to say great job Mr. McEntire and Mr. Dunn. The school is definitely pushing in a great direction, and you are doing a fabulous job of getting students and alumni excited about our school. I’m not totally sure who’s in charge of the television network, but you too are doing a fine job. I’m only a junior, but so many things have changed for the better in the 3 years that I’ve been here. I can only imagine where they’ll be 10-15 years from now.

Nick and the Alumni Affairs Office get alumni together like that whenever there is an opportunity. This year they did functions at Fordham, Temple and GW. I attended the one in Washington, a great turnout and I believe will easily become an annual event.

That’s not to include events that are held “locally.” Raleigh-Durham has a group and several of us here on the board participate with the Triad (Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High Point).

The Harris Alumni House will be completed by the time basketball season rolls around and there will be some events held on the lower level. It is a building that is long overdue on the campus. Alumni will finally have a true college “home” to return too.

I would encourage each of you, alumni and future alumni, to visit the UNC Charlotte alumni website. Nick has become one of my very best friends and I know he, John Snelsire and the other staff members would love to have you on board and active alumni. Exciting things are ahead.

Contact them at B 687-2273 or (800) PIK-UNCC, that’s B 745-8622.

and here is also a way to contribute…you can buy a brink for the alumni house, or a wooden plaque that will be inside the house…and for curent students its only $50 bucks, which really i found to be very cheap

I would strongly encourage that (or one of the more expensive options, if you can), you will permanently be a part of the UNC Charlotte landscape!

Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad that you liked the interview. David does a great job hosting the show. He’s a natural on camera. The idea of the show is to interview alumni who have made an impact on their communities and the University. In a weak moment, I was also interviewed. You can check out a broadcast schedule on the station’s web site: http://www.library.uncc.edu/video/schedule/

We are trying to reach out to alumni living in areas outside of the Charlotte area and NC to let them know that they are still a part of Niner Nation. We had good groups in Philly and DC. NYC was good as well, but I can’t take credit for that. It was put together by Beth Fischer in the College of Business, but I was more than happy to go and represent the cause! Alumni living in these areas are generally pretty fired up about seeing the Niners come to town. We will definitely be making additional visits to those areas.

We do have a lot of work ahead of us to build the kind of Alumni Association that this University and its alumni deserve.

HP - You’re one of the best spokespersons for the cause. Thanks man!

You’re welcome 49erAlumnus. The 49ers and UNC Charlotte are 2 important things in my life. I have seen this place grow so much over the past 30 years. That was one thing that Coach Rose and SID Dave Taylor stressed to me when I first visited, that getting in on the “ground floor” would be special. We’re only on about the thrird floor now so there is room for everyone to get on board still. This campus will explode in the next 10 years!
