Unc-tweetsie road game 11-21-19

They were NOT favored based upon anything they had done this year. They were ranked solely on how bad we were last year and the site of the game tonight. They missed a few free throws late, but actually shot them much better than they had been shooting them lately. We missed tons of open looks. I have no doubt we are the better team, but some nights the better team doesn’t look like the better team and losses can happen.

F itty bitty dave!!!

We looked like a very young team tonight. We have to learn how to play on the road. This looked very much like the JMU game to me. You could tell from the beginning that the confidence was not there. Hopefully, they will figure it out by conference play.

Embarrassing loss. Absolutely embarrassing loss.

Not one player on their roster would be in our top 8 talent wise. They played better D than we did. Absolutely unacceptable.

I wouldn’t go that far.

Which one then?

that one kid on theeir team, their leading scorer is good. our defense was okay. it wasent great but not the reason we lost. we lost bc of our offense tongith but agree about our talent being muych better. we need 1-2 more consistent scorers. we had plenty of layups and wide open threes and couldnt convert.

I’d take hometown kid Isaac Johnson

Yes he would start if he were at Charlotte

@IttyBitty_Dave, @McLeansvilleAppFan and any other Appys that stop by, your team was better tonight and congratulations on the win.

We sucked. Could not hit anything. Our defense was weak. Our coaching could have been better. I just hope we learn some things from this loss.

Gotta hand it to the students for one of their chants when we were down about 19. It really twisted the knife at that point. JUST LIKE FOOTBALL! JUST LIKE FOOTBALL! Excruciating to have to listen to that, but it was spot on. We have to get better in both sports.

Defense played fine, offense laid an egg.

Young team is going to have games like this, part of the maturation process for the team. It’ll only make us better.

Turned on ESPN 730 to listen to the post game show on the way home after the soccer game. Heard Coach’s comments and then most of the remainder was a garble as Matt etc were being broadcast simultaneously with other ESPN programming! Very annoying as well as extremely unprofessional.

Well that sucked. We came out and looked awful the first 10-12 minutes. Had plenty of decent looks that wouldn’t go down. Then we put Bertram in and he got demolished. If he’s gonna play he has to hit shots and not turn l the ball over. We launched way too many early 3s. Our defense was ok. They hit some legit tough shots.

As for App they aren’t that good, just better than us tonight. It’s hilarious how second rate that building is.

Hate we lost, but we know we have dropped other games up there so I knew this could happen.

Thanks, I don’t remember seeing us play baseball this year. Good luck the rest of the year.

Curious what you think is second rate about Holmes. I have an idea myself and curious about an outside perspective.

Awful job last night. We were ill prepared, executed as poorly as humanly possible, and showed no resilience… this team need to figure out how to play on the road. That’s 2 games and 2 absolute bombs. I get we are young, but we weren’t exactly playing the Celtics.

Second rate is the wrong terminology. That’s my fault. The building is fine, but is clearly not a legit college basketball arena. The ticket window is tiny. The fact that you have temp tables set up right inside the door to check bags and tickets and that table is basically in the concourse flow made me laugh.

Great scoreboard though and the bathrooms are better than the ones in Halton. The tarps are obviously bad, but I get it.

The frustrating thing is the way things have happened.

We absolutely dominated Davidson, absolutely the best team we will play this year. We looked markedly better than wake most of the game.

We have laid two massive eggs against two terrible teams. We didn’t appear to be in the same universe as far as defensive assignments tonight. Offensively, we looked totally inept.

I know these guys are young, but it appears some crucial conversations are on the horizon. We don’t play hero Kobe ball anymore. The pack line is the ultimate team defense. If you aren’t 100% attitude and effort on that end of the court, you are giving up open looks, period. If our strategy is to limit the other team’s possessions, we must value the basketball ourselves. We’ve had too many selfish awful shots offensively in our losses. And too many brain-lapse awful passes.

We started to smell ourselves, and got exposed tonight. The good news is, our season comes down to three days in March. Must get back to disciplined basketball.

If we hadn’t just beat Wake and Davidson then I would be worried. I know it’s frustrating to see us win those games then lose this one, but even when we were really good these games happened.

App came out and punched us in the mouth. A few unforced turnovers and a lid on the basket and just like that we were down. Coach IMO panicked and Bertram came in for wayyyy too long. He got demolished. His presence on the court on each end forced the team out of the system. He is embarrassingly bad on D and looks like an average intramural player on offense with poor spacing.

Add onto that the officials were wildly inconsistent. App managed that far better than we did.

We have to find a consistent threat to score. Bertram has to get better if he’s in the rotation. Staff has to do a better job preparing and adjusting.
