Checked out the latest issue last night at Halton. I could NOT believe it, but even our budding journalists on the paperās staff donāt realize that we lost our hyphen 30 years ago, but yet there it is in a caption for a photo on the front page. I give up. Fight on, boys and girls! Fight on!!!
I realize proper form says we arenāt supposed to have a hyphen but you really canāt fault people for putting the hyphen in. Its a confusing name. Its so specific what you are allowed to do with it. It is too easy to butcher. You arenāt even supposed to abbreviate the name of the school.
āUNC-Charlotteā = 6
"UNC Charlotte" = a half dozen
I donāt get all the fuss over āUNCCā and āUNC-Charlotteā. WHO CARES. As long as the school still has the āUNCā suffix, I donāt give a shit what people call us. So long as they donāt call the athletics āUNC Charlotteāā¦
Maybe when a name change takes place, I can see people getting pissed. But now?
"UNC-Charlotte" = 6 "UNC Charlotte" = a half dozenWell... not really.
6 = a half dozen.
UNC Charlotte != UNC-Charlotte;
its more like
UNC-Charlotte = Wrong.
UNC Charlotte = Right.
and
UNC Charlotte = confusing name that needs to be changed.
University of Charlotte = good, not confusing name that our name should be changed to.
I don't get all the fuss over "UNCC" and "UNC-Charlotte". WHO CARES. As long as the school still has the "UNC" suffix, I don't give a shit what people call us. So long as they don't call the athletics "UNC Charlotte"...Maybe when a name change takes place, I can see people getting pissed. But now?
I get what you mean. I used to get pissed but i am starting to not care, this school and its head chapel hill tool do not care about our identity, PERIOD. So why should we get worked up about it.
if you go to footballfanatics.com the fan mats have āUNCā on them, if they didnāt have that i would buy one. The bookstore has nike shirts with āUNCā on them.
This school has no desire to claim an identity, or promote itself whatsoever.
It thinks that in some way we should just lower our heads in reverance to a school 2 and a half hours east of here, and just wait on their every little movement to hope that we get some half ass recognition out of it and that we might trick a half a dozen students from out of state to come to Charlotte.
We think in someway we need them, and will be worse off without the UNC, here is some news, Appalachin and ECU wipe the floors with us on a lot of programs, oh yeah ECU has a med school, and they both have football.

The UNC part on the Charlotte logo was one of the designs considered and approved by the University when Athletics switched to āCharlotte.ā They went with just āCharlotte,ā not ātiny UNC and Charlotte.ā Unfortunately, it was already licensed and out there before the name change. It is not out for use on products now.
I wonāt purchase anything with that logo either, but I do have one of those squishy pillows from Bed, Bath & Beyond with that logo.

No one ever gets our name right especially in the national media but wait, the new brand study will not focus on a name change. Makes sense. :rolleyes:

I loved it whenever I was out of town and picked up a newspaper to scan the college basketball results. The scores would be seperated by North, South, East, and West columns and Iād scan each of the columns thinking to myself āOkay, letās try looking under the 'Uās for UNCCā¦Nopeā¦okay, letās look under the 'Cās for Charlotteā¦nopeā¦okay, letās try āNā for NC-Charlotte. There we are!ā It was like finding Waldo.

Letās say that the change to UofC isnāt on the table for this study. I would make sure that the name situation is at least addressed thoroughly and find ways to eliminate this. Iāve seen the UNC-C, NC-C, etc since 1976 and the problem is almost as bad now as then.

If nothing else, I would like to see the local/state media get it right. The Observer is pretty bad. Even the UNC System office canāt get it right! Come to think of it, there are plenty of departments, groups, etc. at UNC Charlotte that canāt get it right!

Not āUā, āCā, or āNā.
Ok. Carry on.
I was at the library and this is the background we use on all the computers
no wonder we have no identity, we force this shit on people, who dont know any better, and realize this is who we are
