US News Names Charlotte Up & Coming

I know we don’t necessarily put a lot of stock in rankings like this, but I found this interesting…and promising. We’re tied for 9th with a few other schools, but still good that we are even on a list that includes some of the larger schools both near and far (see Clemson & USC)

I like it, whether CHP cares about it or not!

Like they say in Hollywood, ANY publicity is GOOD publicity

i agree w/them because the way the campus is “on the rise” with new buildings, entrances, and more local businesses adopting the image (def more than last year as i drove around last night) this place is def on the rise… hopefully this trend continues !

Pretty neat, well, except for the Tier 3 crap.

The tier 3 crap is because in the past, we haven’t sent in any information to U.S. News, because well, the school, actually provost doesn’t see the need for such rankings. But a bit of good news is that we have risen a tier in less than a year. Last year we were tier 4, so now we move up one level. Onto another I say!

A lot of good publicity for us this year too…we were named one of the top small research universities, along with BYU, and we have three top-ten programs in Special Education, Environmental Systems, and Information systems.

True, but that only applies for the RECENT PAST. At one time we were ranked in the top 10 or 20 for Value of Education for the money. so was chapel hill. This was back around the late 70s and/or early 80s time period.

I’m pleased with the accolades but we must also note that neighboring Davidson, was ranked #1 as an Up-and-coming Liberal Arts College.

And no surprise in the South… High Point ranked #1 as an Up-and-coming Baccalaureate College in the South.

The shocker to me is the South Master’s Universities Rankings: #2 Elon, #9 Appalachian State, #14 Converse andUNC Wilmington, #20 Queens, #27 Winthrop, #36 Campbell, #36 Western Carolina.

The administration needs to send whatever info is necessary to be ranked above these (and the others) and become a tier 1 institution! The perception isn’t good, it’s easy publicity and front page news in today’s edition of the Enterprise.

Is Charlotte considered a ‘Master’s University’ anymore? I thought we became a ‘National University’ once we got the 20th or so PhD. program. Since we were a Tier IV National University in Year 1 and Tier III National University in Year 2 - I figure we’ll overtake Princeton by around 2011-2012.

I think the worst part is looking at the Tier IV universities and realizing that many of those schools are more widely recognizable than we are.

Maybe but the first thing I saw, and the first thing most people may see, is Tier 3. If I was looking for a school and didn’t know any better, I would probably keep looking after I saw that.
