US Open

May have already been mentioned, but former 49er (circa 2008) Trevor Murphy qualified to tee it up at Bethpage Black!

It's nice to see those lessons I gave are paying off.

Go Trevor! :49ers:

It would be great PR if some of these guys that kept us in the top 5 nationally could break through on tour.

Future headline: Former UNC Golfer Making Headway On PGA Tour

:pout:

Another former Niner, Jeff Curl with a 7th place finish this past week on the Nationwide tour.

Glad to see Trevor make it. Good luck.

Now, back to the Observer.
Murphy, who graduated from Charlotte last year, shot 70-68 to advance along with former North Carolina golfer Kevin Silva, who was medalist of the sectional, shooting 137.
How did this get past Mr. Persinger? I guess Ron Green Jr is trying to get fired.

If Mr Green Jr valued his job, he would have written:

Former North Carolina golfer Kevin Silva was medalist of the sectional, shooting 137. Also, qualifying for Bethpage was former UNCC golfer Trevor Murphy.

Good Luck Mr. Green Jr. in your search for new employment.

ETA: if Ron wanted a promotion, he would’ve worked Raymond Felton leading the Bobcats to the cusp of a playoff birth, Butch Davis’ latest recruiting class and Roy Williams favorite breakfast cereal into the story before mentioning Trevor’s efforts.

Fixed…

John Daly, Davis Love III and Corey Nagy did not qualify.

John Daly, (former Tar Heel) Davis Love III and Corey Nagy did not qualify.

Fixed

John Daly, Davis Love III and Corey Nagy did not qualify.

Neither did Lee Janzen, Chris Dimarco, Tommy “2 Gloves” Gainey, Webb Simpson (WF, #1 ranked US amateur in Trevor’s class), Danny Lee (#1 ranked amateur in the world in Trevor’s class) or Bryce Molder (GT, #1 ranked amateur when he was in school).

But David Duval (former #1 in the world) did qualify.

Congrats Trevor! Make us proud!

Darin Spease and Jeff Curl got mentions in today’s Observer Inside Golf section. Didn’t know Spease played that role.

From the recent link to the US Open article, Kevin Silva is a Charlotte resident. But it appears that Green only references him being a UNC-CH grad, and not a Charlotte resident.

Glad to see Trevor make it. Good luck.

I wasn’t far off. Maybe he’ll wear a Charlotte logo shirt on Sunday so Johnny Miller won’t screw it up too.
