Why could we not land a single Big man? We donāt even have a transfer Big sitting. We had a huge hole in the middle and signed absolutely no one to fill it. Anyone got an excuse for that?
i dont know the reason. i doubt that price cant do it, i imagine there were a few factors at play. we were in the final two for fulkerson, who is doing great at ut, but got negatively recruited bc of the rumors of price to ga. tech. we went after guys like thik bol, who is at siu. i cant imagine he went there bc they are better than us. maybe there were other factors, i.e., location, etc., that came into play. im worried a bit also but it is too early to say he cant land a big yet.
I donāt understand why price has gotten such a free pass either, especially compared to how major was criticized on this board. The lack of big men on the team should be squarely on price, not an excuse for him.
I think price does a lot of things for this program that major didnāt. He is more personable in front of a camera and I think hes a more inspiring coach. I think he is better at in game adjustments and game management. But he has not proved he is a better Xs and Oās coach in my opinion. Or a better recruiter.
Year 3 should show a lot for a coach and I am not giving up on the season or coach. I have seen a lot of promise. I understand the reasons for the longer leash (price vs major), but I just donāt agree with them.

I think the main reason is he is an NBA all Star who has proven he knows how to win. Alan Major was an end of the bench assistant no one had ever heard of. Fwiw, I try not to criticize either openly until year three, but Im not one to sing a coaches praises either before theyāve earned it.

Rumors of Price to Ga Tech? You do realize that Fulkerson committed to UT on Nov 6th and signed on the 13th. 13th is the same day we got beat down by Elon for Priceās first game. I certainly donāt think there were any real Price to Ga Tech rumors last year (except on this board), but there sure werenāt before Price coached his first game. Letās not make excuses that donāt exist. We swung and missed on many bigs last year. Not sure why. So far this year, we have one 6ā8āā juco that is a sometimes starter on his juco team.
I hope we can correct that. Iām oddly optimistic about playing Davidson tomorrow, I think the team will respond to Price. Not saying we win, but I hope we correct some of our defensive lapses.
FWIW I got my first head XC coaching gig at USC Upstate right when they went D1 in ā07ā they did have to wait 4 years to be eligible for post season (m soccer and softball fast tracked 09) NCAA but theyāve been playing D1 awhile now. They got destroyed those first few years but played big time schools. They will always play like they have nothing to lose because theyāre always expected to lose. Payne has been there forever took them to a D2 NCAA final four I think. They are the UNC CLT of SC only much much much much much much less resources. Their home court seats maybe 1000. They have the highest student athletic fee in the country and only 5k students with one of lowest admission standards Iāve ever seen.
Their coaches have numerous chips on their shoulders and really get the most out of their athletes.
Iām pretty sure their softball, baseball, and tennis teams routinely compete with us and beat us on numerous occasions.
I hate us losing to them, but we need to get our athletes and fans to stop taking the lesser known schools for grantedā¦ We need to be the ones with the chip on the shoulder(like we used to).
I think weāve settled with our place and we are too comfortable.
We have great talent and great coaches but we need an AD wide focus on destroying every team we play for every sport.
