Utter goes off on A-10 officiating

Good stuff as usual!

A FUC*ING Men

Way to tell it like it is Jim !!!

Do they know what a charge is? Holy cow. I was watching the video from La Salle’s site.

I particularly liked the play where the guy went over Lee’s back for the rebound then stepped on him.

I had a strange feeling when Utter said before the game “I am sitting next to the officiating evaluator”

The ref in question must be a dim-wit. You can’t say stuff like that this day in age or its on the internet before midnight.

This douchebag reffed at least one of our games against the Tarholes, including a FT disparity of something like 40-11 in that second overtime game.

Awesome!!! But really… what can they do??? Send them back to school? Can you steal them away from other conferences with more money? Do refs have contracts?

Funny, I was googling Scagliotta. Check this out: http://lasalle-explorers.com/news0506.htm

To summarize, there were 22 officials who appeared in at least 2 La Salle games this past season. 3 of these officials distinguished themselves as the best, while 4 of this group deserve immediate termination without review and 4 others of this group deserve to be removed from A10 officiating after review. In addition, there are 2 other officials who have officiated bad games in previous season and need to be dismissed as well. Jim Satalin, A10 Coordinator and Assignor of Officials, must take action in the off-season and announce the officials who have been removed which must include Hughes, Scagliotta and the others rated as the worst.

I’m usually not one for ref bashing, but Frank Scagliotta’s foul call on Iowa’s Glen Worley on Wednesday night with the score tied and time expiring was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Instead of going to overtime, as it should have, the game ended when Missouri’s Clarence Gilbert made one of two free throws with 0.8 seconds on the clock.

At least he’s consistent. Consistently horrible.

Nicely done, Jim. The A-10 needs to do something about officiating in every sport (as I said in the shoutbox, it’s even worse in baseball).

Wow, he was just looking for an excuse to toss Bobby. WOW. . . Can’t wait to hear what Bobby thinks about this.

I didn’t think you could sink any lower than the incident at GW a couple of years ago when they went to the replay to give Lee a technical foul, giving GW a perfect A10 season.

After collecting the reports from the evaluators then the league would toss them in the trash I guess. Simply because year after year these refs are still “working” and still getting pay for a horrible job at best. A-10 refs do suck.

For those of you too lazy to read the blog, here’s what it said:

During the second half of Wednesday’s game, while La Salle had possession of the ball under its basket and the ball was in play, official Frank Scagliotta turned and walked toward where I sat near halfcourt, next to an A-10 evaluator of officials (his name I don’t have at the moment).

Scagliotta said looking at the evaluator, “Has Bobby been giving you (expletive) from across the court?”

The evaluator looked dumbstruck. He turned to me, looked down, then said softly, “No” and Scagliotta walked away.

This is truly a new low in college basketball officiating. Unbelievable.

Bobby won’t be making a comment. If he does, there is the risk of a suspension from the mighty A-10.

Ugh, this has been brutal all year, for every conference in the nation.

This really needs to be looked at in the off season, for all officials. I know charge/blocking fouls can be pretty tricky, but I dont ever remember seeing so many, so inconsistantly called, as I have this year.

What’s amazing is just how much these officials miss during the game and how inconsistant their calls have been. They either decide to call everything to the basket a charge or everything a blocking foul, and no matter what happens that’s the call they make for that game. Yet they miss calls under the basket but then end up calling something small around the 3 point line. Every since we moved to the A-10 I have been blown away at how poor the officiating is.

Send emails to the A10 like you do Dubois

I will, but to who?

BTW, what about the A10 board?? No wonder this league has stayed down for so many years. The fans don’t understand that they can require more of the league in terms of TV and officiating. If we had the ambition of some of the A10 fans we would not be looking at having football.

The thing to remember here is that the A-10 gets its referees from a pool and my understanding is that we share officials with the Big East. So it’s not just a problem in the A-10.

Case in point - Jim commented after the UMass game about whether or not A-10 refs had gotten the memo about no longer allowing players to call a timeout while going out of bounds. Well, I’ve also seen that happen in ACC and SEC play this year.

I also found it interesting that the ACC is apparently ignoring the emphasis on court decorum this season. Afterall, can’t be throwing Coach K out of a game can we?!

Those damn LaSalle fans (that felt crazy to type) on the A10 board almost made me sign up and post something over on that board. They seem clueless. The officiating his horrible. Period. They seem to be content with it, which is what happens to you when you are a fan of a doormat program I guess.

Something needs to be done about it, but I’m pretty sure nothing will change until Bruno leaves. Why whould it? She’s put up with it for this long, why would she change now?

I don’t know Run. I have seen the same refs call Big East and an occasional ACC game. They call it different for some reason. I really don’t get it. They seem to figure out the difference in a blocking foul and a charge. Not to mention they hardly ever give attention to the coaches or bench.
