Utter's blog, on possibility of transfers

i don’t think i’ll comment on this thread because i’m about 90% sure i know who is leaving.

You just did

I didn’t mention any names did I? I didn’t think so.

You said you wouldn’t comment on this thread and you did, regardless of the content. Is the contradiction that difficult for you to see?

yeah considering i’m visually challenged, and some would argue mentally challenged as well. Ever since you took away the dark version of this message board i’ve been typing with my eyes closed.

I wouldn’t mind Lewis transferring so he could get a legitimate chance to play. I would like to see Booker stick it out because I don’t think he was in good condition until later in the season. Also, I think even Lutz said that at the end of the year he was trying to get him more minutes because he was doing much better in practice. Plus, the team still will need some type of offensive post presence to go along with Phil.

Carlos and Lewis is my bet. The addition of the 4th PG as a ā€œwalk onā€ really points to this IMO.

I'd hope Carlos Williams transfers before Jerrell Lewis any day of the week.

It’s posts like this that earned gL my vote!!!

D.O.B.A.

I’m just psyched about us going to the Paradise Jam Tourney in St. Thomas and possibly meeting Winthrop. I DO plan on being there and travel to Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas) a lot. If anyone needs to know a cheap place to stay there or where to go, let me know. That place rocks!

lewis is gone - carlos is not

i feel like, and i’m really hoping, that carlos has a great year next year. he screwed up a lot this year, and i would think that after an offseason of working hard and watching film he will realize what not to do next year. i’ll admit there were a number of times this year i almost pulled all of my hair out trying to figure out what the heck he was thinking when he made a play, but i have not lost all faith about him next year. Sometimes an offseason after a rough year works wonders, sometimes it doesnt, we’ll see.

so are we thinking that some of this paradise jam will be televised locally on a news channel or something especially if we end up playing winthrop??? i think a lot of people would take intrest in that game

The amount of instability in this program under Lutz is ridiculous. And people wonder why we have no chemistry on the court.

Sound pretty sure of yourself there…

I’ll bump this reply back to the top in a few days.

The question is…where in the hell would they go? Division II?

forgot that ā€œi thinkā€ part didnt I… dangit…

Lewis isn’t going anywhere. If he were, he would have done so last year. He was a redshirt soph last year, so he has only two seasons left. If he wanted D1, he would have to sit and then have one. Could go D2, but I am 99% sure he won’t.

FSN carried the Paradise Jam games last year.

I know. This is why I’m on edge with Jim Utter’s ā€œone (or more) recruits to transferā€. Lewis, Dewhurst, Jones & Phaler all missed a year, so their leaving would not make sense.

Players who could transfer without losing a year of eligibilty would be:
Carlos Williams
Leemire Goldwire
David Booker
Ian Andersen

I don’t want to lose Goldwire or Andersen and I think Booker will turn out really well. Besides, Booker leaving will not help to solve the depth/experience problem in the frontcourt.

I could understand if Carlos would want to leave with Gerrity coming in January. But I would not be quick to give a 3-year scholarship away to Harris…yet.

The best case scenario is if Carlos leaves and we acquire Mack and another big guy (preferably w/experience). Best case scenario x2 is if Harris proves worthy of a scholarship as a walk-on during Gerrity’s absense. That’s a lot of ā€œifsā€.

Here’s another ā€œfascinatingā€ scenario that I just dreamed up…

Harris comes out of High School and no one wants him. So he asks himself if he wants to go prep or go juco and very maturely says to himself, ā€œI’ll worry about my education first and take some coarses at a junior college. Who knows…maybe a decent team will discover me and offer a scholarship.ā€

So he attends school and plays hoops. A coach from Pfeiffer checks him out and says ā€œWow, this kid can play at a really high level!ā€ and tries to sign him. Harris says, "Thanks, but no thanks, I want to play at a Div I school. The Pfeiffer guy agrees that he has the ability.

Then the Pfeiffer guy says, ā€œHey look…even though you’re not going to accept my scholarship offer, I might still be able to help you out. There’s a coach in Charlotte that needs some immediate help at PG. Rather than pay your way through Junior College for your sophomore year, why not enroll at Charlotte and audition yourself there? Play for one semester and then transfer to a Div I school that was impressed by you and could use you.ā€

Then Harris thinks to himself, ā€œThat’s a pretty good deal. If I play my cards right, I can jump to another school that has a scholarship open and continue to play for 2 1/2 years at another good school, with this Pepperdine guy coming to town. Or, at the very least, I can get a scholarship as a backup to Gerrity and Lewis. Either way, it sure beats another year of juco.ā€

If Harris walks on and does well, I’d almost hope he immediately bolts to greener pastures once Gerrity joins the team in January.

As much as I’d hate to see Booker leave and C Williams be the one to stay, I’d much rather just know who the mystery player is already.
