Former UVA football player:

He attended both Varina High School in Henrico and Petersburg High School where he was a star football player, it indicated. In high school, he also was a member of the National Honors Society, president of the Key Club, and named Student of the Year at Varina.

Not the typical background.

The shooter is still at large, and several law enforcement agencies are looking for him. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Sad story.

This could shut down the program for the rest of this season…maybe longer.

Apologies if I bummed anyone out by posting this stuff - but I thought it was a big sports story worth posting.

Didn’t want to take attention from our game tonight, but it does lend some perspective.

We also have the connection to UVA through Coach Sanchez.

Haven’t read the story in detail. They give a motive yet? Curious what made the shooter break. Being bullied, mess with his woman, unpaid bets, etc

All I have seen was that he was an ex football player and the ones he shot were current players on the football team. Sounds like some hard feelings

Jones Jr. won an award for scholastic achievement, made national honor society and was accepted to UVA while he was a senior in high school, but a Richmond Times Dispatch article from when he graduated high school reported that he had gotten into fights for years, faced suspensions and struggled after his father left their family.
