Best post in the thread!!!
If you were here in the late 80s/early 90s you would know that nothing got built. This is 2010 and kids don’t care about a piece of paper under glass at the road side or yard signs announce events. Video is not a bad idea. And in the last ten/twelve years this campus has doubled in size an looks incredible.
It may look a little lame with the time on it. But, wait until basketball season and they are showing highlights on it. Or better yet, football season.
Overall, I don’t see what’s so bad about it.
No clue. No matter what happens us Niner fans are going to complain.
There’s the key right there: that this sign is updated daily with correct information. Even with all the fancy technology, these signs can be just as bad as the plexiglass signs with outdated information if someone is not assigned to update it daily, they get lazy about it, or if the information is incorrect. People will ignore it if it’s not kept current and/or if the information is not accurate. It can be a great tool if used correctly and kept up to date.

I like the sign, but this is my fear. I have little faith in someone from some obscure arts/technology department keeping up with it. They had these nice flat screen all over campus back when I was a student and they were never utilized properly. Instead there was some basic powerpoint type advertisements. In fact, alot of them looked like they were done in powerpoint because of the fade effects that most people go overboard with.
Hopefully things change and this board will be used to show actually video footage and some visually appealing material.
Is it really intended for video? I thought it was really more of a “where to go” info board.
I highly doubt they will show highlights on the board. I’m sure it has the capability to but that’s just dangerous to show a video next to a road.
Well probably not like a whole espn top 10. I mean more like an animation or video highlight as part of an advertisment. You know, like the ones you see for the bobcats on video boards.
I swear I think some of you “guys” are women------always looking for something to b**** about. ::)
I hate it when people b**** about people who “b****” about stuff. I’m sorry we want stuff done right and don’t particularly care to keep our feelings to ourselves. If people weren’t f*ckin up so much, we probably would have less bad to say.
Speak of the devil, somehow the word “f*ckin” isn’t censored… (I did so myself)
uhh, ??? so you hate what you just did ? :p
Hah, no. Notice my second use of the word “bitch” is in quotation marks.

No, you’re just not reading it right. …Don’t worry about it man.

Can I play?
That looks pretty tacky.
Electronic billboards are tacky for sure. This one is less so than most IMO. Tackiness is in the eye of the beholder.
I think it looks pretty good. At least there was some thought and design put into it.
A lot of places have a metal pole stuck in the ground holding a big ugly aluminum encased sign.
Or worse, a tempory trailered sign to announce parking for special events.
You guys are right about the content though. What is displayed and updated is key.
Drove through campus tonight and there are two concrete bases about 10’ apart where Phillips Rd. meets Cameron Blvd. It had electrical cables on top and they just repaved that intersection. I’m thinking its for traffic signals (WAY OVERDUE THERE) but I couldn’t see the other side to tell if there were two more bases on the diagonal corner. They were close enough that it could be for another smaller electronic sign though.
No clue. No matter what happens us Niner fans are going to complain.
that is all.
I know they are putting traffic signals there, but haven’t heard anything about another electronic board. Seems like an odd spot to stick one though.

agree it does seem like an odd spot. but those traffic signals will be a nice improvement.

I am about 99.99% convinced it is for traffic signals but that wouldn’t be the oddest place to put an athletics dedicated video board. It pretty much is the center of our athletics complex.

If it’s an athletics dedicated board, it needs to be over by the 29 entrance or the Cameron Blvd. 49 entrance. That way Joe Public can find out when we are playing, special promotions, etc. We sure as hell know that the Observer isn’t going to tell them.
