Vincent Council - PG (2009)

Saw this on Zagsblog.com

Patterson (N.C.) head coach Chris Chaney says point guard Vincent Council of New York has offers/interest from Providence, Rutgers, Charlotte and Arkansas and is “leaning toward Providence.” The 6-foot-2 Council is averaging 13 points and 10 assists for Patterson, ranked No. 3 in the National Prep Poll behind No. 1 Hargrave Military and No. 2 Brewster. Hargrave and Patterson will square off on Sunday in Maryland.

“[Council] has a very high basketball IQ,” Chaney said. “He really knows how to play. He’s a tough kid. He makes he right plays during the game. He’s one of those guys you can count on. He’s a quarterback who makes the right plays.”

He played at Lincoln in brooklyn…home of other big time PGs such as Stephan Marbury and Sebastian Telfair.

Would be a nice get for us, but losing to Providence, his first choice hurts. Rutgers has a million guards already and is after Dominic Cheeks hard, and is in their final 4 (along with Pitt, Villanova & Kansas), so I could see them looking at Council as a fall back.

We need to land a top PG for 09 desperately.

Braswell needs someone who can feed him the ball.

Thread about him from the Providence scout message board.

They seem to have a couple PGs coming in, so we really need to sell playing time to this kid.

More from a report on the recent National Prep Showcase…

Look for point guard Vincent Council to be a spring signing priority for a number of schools. Council was solid throughout the game as his team's quarterback, and there just aren't a lot of quality point guards left in the 2009 class.

Assistants from Kansas State, Arkansas, Louisville, Cincinnati, Minnesota, UNLV, California, Iowa, South Carolina, Arizona State, Rutgers, UMass (head coach Derrick Kellogg), Vanderbilt, Providence, Northern Iowa and New Orleans were some of the coaches spotted in the gym.

Doesn’t mention Charlotte among coaches spotted in the gym. Hmmm…

There was a report on Council from CAAInsider, for the Hargrave v Patterson game (that Braswell also played in):
Vincent Council (2009, 6-0 PG)

Vincent was really able to put the ball in the basket in this contest. He knocked down a couple pull up midrange jump shots and also had some strong takes to the hoop, scoring in traffic. Vincent hit a pair of running floaters in the lane as well. On one play Vincent caught a pass close to the hoop and looked as if he was going to dribble it back to the outside. He then quickly turned back towards the hoop catching his man off guard and was fouled on his layup attempt. He did convert on both of the following free throws. I would have liked to see Vincent distribute the ball a little better. There were some opportunities for him to find his teammates for easy buckets but he opted to take more difficult shots himself.
Something yesterday from Rivals:

 1. Vincent Council: The Patterson (N.C.) School point guard does everything well except shoot the ball with range. The physical playmaker was close to deciding between Providence and Rutgers, but he is now waiting as more schools - Arkansas in particular - get involved.

Per Jeff Goodman, headed to the Big East:

Providence received a pledge from Vincent Council, a tough point guard at Patterson School. ``He’s a pure point guard who makes everyone better,” Patterson coach Chris Chaney told me last night. “He is a winner. (Keno) Davis and (Pat) Skerry put it over the top.”

That’s what we get for losing to Providence this season. Geez.

I don’t really think we had a shot, I never really saw our name listed in the past couple months.

Missed most of OOC with a hamstring injury. Averaging 9.6 ppg and a little 6+ apg since his return in late December.
