I could not make it to the game even though I bought tickets. My #%%hole of a boss forced me to work late. I caught the end of the game on Yahoo. I read the recap of the game on ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=250542429 There was one statement that stuck out to me.
Washington led Memphis with 29 points despite being guarded most of the game by Basden, the reigning C-USA defensive player of the year.
Did Eddie guard this kid the whole game? Was he really that good?

no…maybe 15 mins into the 2nd half…Mitch got him mostly the 1st half…
Eddie started guarding him after memphis went up 10 early in the 2nd. That was when his production really started to trail off. In the first it was mostly mitch or goldwire in the man sets, or zone.
That said, Eddie wouldn’t have been able to shut him down the whole game… he still woulda probably got 14-19 points. D Wash is for real.
Yup, Eddie took over in the 2nd half when we were down 7 or 10. He shut him down after that (part of it was our effort on transition D as a team, though, too) for the most part.
Washington is quick - quicker than Mitch with the ball, I think - and as Mitch commented about in the post game, he runs behind “screens” and Memphis’ big players. Baldwin said Memphis was the longest and fastest team they have played this year and Washington is the lead on that - he runs like crazy with the ball (sometimes too crazy, as his TO count suggests).
Basden did a good job on him defensively. Mitch, not so much.
