If thing’s weren’t bad enough already, SIU loses a key player…
SALUKIS STRUGGLE WITH YOUTH
The news just got worse for Southern Illinois coach Chris Lowery.
His young team just got even younger after senior point guard Bryan Mullins was ruled out for the rest of the season (and his career) with a stress fracture in his right foot.
Mullins has only missed two games in his career and is just the second player in Missouri Valley history with more than 500 career assists and 250 steals. He missed a pair of NIT games last season with a stress fracture in his other leg.
"He’s the best,” Lowery said of Mullins. "He’s one of those kids who overworked his body trying to get better.”
Now the Salukis will have five freshmen in the top eight players – including starters Kevin Dillard, Justin Hare. Justin Bocut will likely move into the starting lineup and Anthony Booker and Nick Evans see extensive time up front.
