According to Lutz post gameâŚwe had 6 men on the floorâŚwhich isnt even suppose to be a Tech but thats how the last 8 games have gone
88, that is very much a technical, so the refs got that one correct. Just ask Karl Hobbs, who has had the exact same thing happen 3 times in the past 2 seasons. Guess they donât teach math at GW (or perhaps UConn, since thatâs where Hobbs got his degree).
I noticed that when GW played here, any player checking in would always hand a towel to the guy he was replacing⌠happened the entire game without exception. Good way to make sure there is no confusion. Maybe GW forgot to take their towels to Dayton last night?
Not learning to count to 5 caused the T. Duh! :o
Donât you have to tell the official scorer who you got when you check in? Wouldnât an official scorer say, âYou didnât tell me whoâs coming out for you?â
Yes, thatâs why GW startd doing that, but apparently still some âglitchesâ to be worked out!
Lutz was making offense/defense subs at this point and had told 2 players on the bench to report in when the timeout was first called. Obviously 2 people were not told to come off of the court, resulting in the confusion.
Regardless of what happened, this is a coaching mistake. Lutz and the assistants are responsible for making sure 5 guys are on the court and even if 6 walk out, there was time to get it corrected. The problem was the ball was inbounded with 6 still on the court.
In the end, I still think they would have lost the game despite this huge error.
But wouldnât we then have 7 players sitting down during the time out? Iâm not saying it isnât the coaches fault. Just would love to see a replay to see how it unfolded.
Falls on the coach, period. Thereâs no other way to accurately shift blame.
Just out of curiosity though (my view was partially blocked), did the ref call the T before the ball was given to a player for the inbounds? Or was it after the ball was given? Seems like the refs saw it coming and just waited until they were certain we werenât correcting it. I guess they could have been kind and given Lutz a signal or something but since when have the refs ever done in anything in our favor?
Just seems so blatantly easy for someone on the coaching staff to realize there are 6 white jerseys on the court. How you allow that to happen is mindblowing.
I wondered the same thing. It was after the ball was in bounded, but only like a 1 second ran off the clock. Iâm not sure if there is an obligation for a referee to point it out before the ball is in bounded. But it did seem odd to me that the official wouldnât notice before play started, but then only take 1 second to notice.
I did Football Ref last year.
They told us to try to help Pop Warner to correct the mistake before the penalty if possible, but for High School they should know better. So Iâm figuring at the College Level, the Ref probably thinks we deserve it if we start play like that.
I donât see where it is the refereeâs job to tell a team that theyâre breaking the rules before they do it.
I agree. That was all Bobby.

You just have to tell them you are going in and not who you are going in for.
The to many men on the court was the ENTIRE teams fault. We had 9 players, head coach, 3 assistants, director of basketball operations, and trainer and no one noticed that there were to many guys on the court. I mean these guys have been crammed together on the bench all year and they donât all of the sudden realize that they have more room than normal.
And if memory serves me right we took a 30 second timeout so the players didnât sit down rather just huddled around Lutz. Still no reason for having to many guys on the court but it is a little more hectic. We took the full timeout after Sirin hit the 3 after the foul shots.

That makes more sense as to how it could have been missed. Somebody else mentioned that we had 2 guys checking in. More than likely both guys were told to sub for the same player.
