What color is NINER Green?

QFT. I guarantee there is less UNCC merchandise available than any other college of any size in the state. I've been in the bookstores of High Point and UNCG in the past two weeks and our bookstore (including Gray's) isn't even in the same ballpark.

Why bother stocking UNC Charlotte gear when students can get free Chapel Hill hats from the Observer?

In all seriousness, we didn’t even have a dog collar available until last year, while Campbell had some available when my eldest sister began college ages ago.

Is it fare to compare us to a private school? I'm not arguing that we lack greatly in merchandise, but don't they have much different resources to work with than underfunded public schools?

Where’s this dog collar you speak of… my pup just hit 6 months and is about to pop out of his.

Got mine at the bookstore, surprisingly!

I can stop by tomorrow and let you know if they’re still there.

If you remember to that would be cool… but don’t make it a priority, I’ll eventually need to get over there and update my wardrobe… unless the bookstore has nothing but the UNC on front like Gray’s.

Branding is such a big issue. It just baffles me that we do such a bad job with it. The color issue is just one of many that piss me off. How is it that we build a regional or national identity if something as simple as a ā€œtrueā€ school color can’t be decided?

I’m hoping that we go forward with football and that proves the spark to re-examine everything from a marketing perspective.

To almost quote The Joker ā€œThe Marketing Department needs an enemaā€

The colors on the floor in Halton are perfect. As bad and inconsistent everything marketing related is at school, I have to say the whole floor design in Halton is classy and a perfect shade of green. I also want to say that the Cheerleaders had really good unis this season (design wise and color). Does anybody agree with me that these are some strong points on which to build? We badly need a consistent color scheme throughout the entire university. This idea of a separate athletic and academic identity is absurd for a school that struggles with creating anything. Ditch the crown logo.

I also disagree on Forest Green. It is dignified, but the most well known colors are not always dignified (Clemson Orange, UNC-CH Blue, NC STATE red, UT- Orange, Miami blah blah)

I would also like to see a consistent and timeless lettering on our jerseys. Just have them say Charlotte in a basic way so we don’t always need a new design. Continuity creates identity.

agreed, thats one thing thats been done well.

I suspect they will repaint it soon. :biglaugh:

AGREE, except for one thing. Make the A10 logos green. IIRC, I noticed last year they are black. I’ve noticed that other A10 courts coordinate it with THEIR OWN colors.

Also, agree here. but I think you probably understand why this doesn’t happen when you make the ā€œContinuity creates identityā€ statement.

Why would the school consider continuity when it doesn’t know its own identity and/or how to market itself.

Infidel. I cannot believe we are hashing this out in such an opinionated manner. It is what it IS: Forest Green. And always has been. I can only imagine other schools’ students/fans/alums debating their colors.
MICHIGAN FAN #1: ā€œIt’s always been maizeā€.
MICHIGAN FAN #2: ā€œWell, I’d really like for it to be a darker, more golden yellow.ā€

And we wonder why we have no ā€œtraditionā€ at Charlotte. PULEEEZZZE!!! Forest Green then, now, and forever!

Well I think the color scheme on the floor in Halton is pretty unique and we should go for that. It has been that color for as long as I can remember, but thats not all that long

The floor color is really lighter than forest green, but my take on that is it shows up better on TV. So I’ll live with it. However, unis and gear for fans, etc. should always be the correct color.

nobody at the school cares.
hell, charlotte49ers.com has at least 4 shades of green AND NO 49er LOGO :mallet:

This topic proves we need football more then ever when this is the top discussion on the board haha. I personally like the Charlotte49er.com green by the way.

The same could be said for most of what we end up talking about…

The school does need to work on uniformity of the color (I’m not a big PMS 349 fan, but whatever), but in regards to merchandise, let me promise you that if you walk into a fan store @ UT, you will see several close, but not identical shades of that violent orange. It’s pretty much impossible to get every maker to nail the color exactly (and then it fades really badly on top of that), but our marketing/licensing folks are particularly bad at enforcing it.

My Charlotte cap that was forest green when I bought it 3 years ago is now lovingly faded into a cool shade of comfortable looking denim. I LOVE it. Because it’s naturally changed shade and was not a mistake.

I just saw this on the poll, that is why I’m posting here. With PMS colors, they come out differently depending on what the ā€œprocessā€ is. They come out differently on different types of fabrics. Some schools actually dictate a different PMS color based on the type of fabric so that they achieve color uniformity across all types of merchandise. Some vendors simply cannot match the PMS color. In some cases, if you order ā€œstockā€ merchandise you might have to settle for a color that is ā€œcloseā€. Some vendors just don’t care to match the color perfectly. In many cases it is just ignorance on the part of the team or coach doing the ordering.

Ink on paper, same thing. If you have ink on a heavy paper, a regular paper, a photo paper, a poster style paper, glossy paper, flat paper, it’s all going to come out differently. PMS just dictates the levels of the CYMK inks, the percentage of the mixture.

(All that being said, the problem with the 49er merchandise primarily comes from people not knowing what they are doing when ordering merchandise and vendors just making things on their own. And then the marketing department not following through to put the kabosh on it).

I was at Steve & Barry’s the other day and I cringed multiple times when seeing the black sweatshirt that said Charlotte across it. If it were Green I wouldn’t have been able to resist grabbing it.
