I got on and mentioned that I was sorry to hear about Herron at EZU but that at least Calapari had another coaching vacancy he could float his name for. Gary laughed and said he wouldnât want that job. I told them it didnât matter, Cal would float his name for the Independence High School basketball job if he thought itâd get his name in the papers and I called him a slime ball, or something like that.
Gary asked if I knew if his dad still worked for US Air. I told him I didnât know that he worked there to begin with but that might explain why I have so many problems with them.
He asked me if I was excited about tonight and I said absolutely. Told them I knew they had seen a lot of Niner teams over the years and that it was my firm belief this team is special. Past Niner teams would have lost at St. Louis, or laid an egg against Depaul when we were right on the cusp of the top 25. I told them I thought the difference now was that, not since we had Demarco, did we have a game changing player who could take a game over. I told them we had 2 in Eddie and, since conference play started, Curt. I told them I really thought that they were the difference makers and that we are a legit Sweet 16 team and, if the draw is right, a potential Elite 8 team. I asked them what they thought and hung up.
It sparked a good 2 or 3 minutes of them talking about Eddie. Gary and Jim said they thought Eddie was the difference and that he did so many things. Jim asked if they thought the props he was getting from guys like Huggs, Anderson, Herron etc. were just coach speak. Gary said no way because all the comments came after they were all beaten by the Niners. He said national pundints are just now starting to take notice and mentioned Jay Bilas has known about Eddie and has been talking about him a lot lately. Good discussion all around. Them some dumb tarhole called in and messed things up.

That was you, MK? I heard that. Thought you would sound more like âDubyaâ in person

I was going to get into the âstrategeryâ for the Niners but had to drop off.
You could have mentioned Nucular Nance too.
Good job and thanks for the info.

[/b]I read quotes from Bilas praising Basden in an article in CSW a few weeks ago. It's good to hear him saying the same things on TV. He is one of my favorite national analysts.

well we did lay an egg against ECU, while on cusp of top 25. But agree this team has great potential, and psychologically St. Louis is big win.
Agree, Curt is finally showing the Demarcoesque play that we have always hoped of him. I hope he stays another year. I remember we could always count on Demarco going for at least 20 and 9 once he was a senior. Eddie has always done the dirty work and I am thrilled that he is putting up points now and getting recognition.
Another quality call this morning, MK. You keep this up and theyâll have to give you the âspecialâ line to call in on that they let the big timers use.
What did MK say today? And what did Bilas say about our game? I just caught then end of it when they were talking about GT.

I like to keep the Niners talk going as long as we can.
Today I just gave Eddie props and talked about how great it was that Lutz wasnât taking a back seat to Cal in anyway. I mentioned their âchatâ after the scrum at midcourt when the refs were reviewing the play. Gary agreed saying Bobby will not take a back seat to any coach as far as face time with an official or making himself heard. Mentioned the end of the first half when Cal was running his mouth to the officials and Bobby turned around and came back to make sure the ref knew he was there and to make his voice heard.
Then some guy called in to talk freakin South Carolina hoops.
I didnât get to hear Bilas this morning, anyone got info on what he said?
Mk, I think this one was directed at you and Nick:
From ESPN.com: âBobby and I are fine, even though he was complaining about me the whole game,â Calipari said. âBut so was every fan, all 8,000 of themâ.
MK, did you get your chance to have fun with Calipari? I was sitting in 103 row e, which I would assume was right behind you?

[/b]I definently got to have my fun with him. Alumnus and I were yelling at him almost the whole game. He even eye balled us at the end of the first half. It was great.
His assistant coach got on my nerves as much as he did. Calipari should have gotten at least 2 technicals. I could read Coach Lutz lips when he told Cal and the ref in the first half that âthis is my $#$$# house!â Classic.
