What do you guys think of....

Judy Rose (our AD_?
Just wonder what y’alls opinion and thoughts on her are?

Its summer, figure this could be an interesting topic point haha.

<<< crickets >>>

Some hate, some love, some tolerate, some can’t get past the hair.
Pretty much should sum it up. I’m sure if you do a search on Judy on NNN, you would find some interesting opinions.

IMO, sounds like an awful thread. A picture of 80s porn might pop up.

I’d say her stock definitely went up after the C-USA news.

She has done some great things and some not so great things.

Positives: getting us back into CUSA, impressive facitlities (even for non-rev sports like tennis), jumping on board the football train after it left the station, getting us into the A10 when we had to leave CUSA, solid coaching hires for the most part, changing our atheltic name to Charlotte.

Negatives: marketing - whats that?, not building a small younger donor base to grow in the future, being overtly negative about the football push when it started (fantasy dollars?), disconnected supporters (smaller ones not the big ones), extremely quiet when it comes to keeping us updated (I know somethings they can’t say publically, but they say nothing), not starting football resulting in our move to the A10 instead of the BE

For me I ask a simple question. If it wasn’t for CFI would we have football today? I say no. We had a chance in the 90s for football when we were in CUSA, we had a chance in the 00s when we got kicked out of CUSA - neither time did we do anything about it. Somehow terrorist attacks stopped us? Right. Easy excuse because we did start football in the worst economic climate in generations. I know she couldn’t go against the chancellor, but her JOB is to make the case. Obviously she couldn’t make the case, but a handful of alumni (none of which had a ton of money) were able to make the case. Because of that we are 10 years behind where we should be. We SHOULD be playing with Memphis, Cincy, Lville, USF, etc. We did not have the leadership required and we are now playing catchup and without the pressure applied by CFI I am not certain that football would be on it’s way today.

She has done great with coaching hires for non-rev sports. When it comes to rev sports she has only made a few hires - Melvin, who she tried to not hire even though Mullins basically said this is your man. Bobby - who she hired right away with no search, Major - jury is out and Lambert - who we all like but honestly we have no idea.

So while she has done some great things there a a list of things that are either negatives or could have been done much better. Overall I give her a B-

CUSA was best possible spot for us as we were so late in starting football. If we would have started 10+ years ago, I’d feel comfortable stating we’d be in a BCS conference.

The facility upgrades have been great, although now we need to get baseball on par with CUSA facilities.

She generally makes very solid hires, hoping that turns out to be the case with Major & Lambert.

The growth of 49er Club isn’t what we’d like it to be and our marketing efforts have been lackluster for years. Football should help both.

Agree 100%

As for my response to this thread, I can only refer you to the 11th commandment:

Thou shalt respect the Pantsuit.

My biggest issue with Judy is the lack of marketing that NWA hit on earlier. You can talk about the 49er Club not growing young members but that is a direct reflection of the lack of marketing after kids graduate and even more so while they are in school, lets face it if we can’t get them in the stands when it’s free the likelihood they come when they have to start paying is fairly small.

As much as some of us like to blame her Judy is not the lone reason that we didn’t have football and although she wasn’t fully supportive of the push for football we will have a nice on campus stadium with a team practicing in it this fall and likely playing FBS football in 2015. I honestly did not think she was capable of pulling that off so some of the anger I have towards her has definitely gone away in recent months.

As 2k mentioned we have also improved most of the athletic facilities on campus with plans to do even more with baseball and probably a few others that we don’t know about yet. Definitely need to upgrade the baseball facility to compete with the schools in CUSA ASAP.

Marketing also plays a role when you are still a student. Students need to be more engaged on campus and that should help retention and donations after graduating.

I won’t repeat what’s already been said, but here’s one not yet mentioned.

Judy was instrumental in getting us into CUSA the 1st time. That was a biggie.

No she was not. The credit for getting the Niners into CUSA the first time goes to Jeff Mullins. Without his work and connections, ie. Denny Crum, we would not have been in CUSA.

Metro? Is that you?

Yeah, we basically blackmailed our way into CUSA with USF. Our two were the swing votes from the Metro on if the teams leaving got to take the revenue distributions with them. We agreed to vote yes if they invited us to join as well.

No, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Mullins was certainly a big help, but Judy was the “leader” of that effort.

The same UofL that somehow convinced the rest of the league to adopt an inane 3-division split (who can forget the good ol’ Red, White, and Blue?!) for men’s hoops? Yep, Denny Crum and UofL were our best buddies!

metro hates advanced degrees

Someone educate me on this whole “fantasy dollars” misstatement? Wasn’t it directed at the initial NNN fundraising initiative started by JimmyHat where people pledged but didn’t actually have to reach in their wallet and pay? And then when football happened many people on the list didn’t step up and honor their commitment? If this is true, what was fundamentally wrong with the term fantasy dollars?

^^^^^^ IS JUDY ROSE!

Then let me be the first to welcome her to the board and ask her when we are getting an Indoor Batting Facility?

I think the reason it has rubbed some the wrong way, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, is that she didn’t take that opportunity to step up to the plate and throw her support behind the effort. In essence, it felt to some (not saying it’s necessarily true) that she didn’t get behind the cart and push, but waited for some on this board to pull the cart out of the mud and then decided to hitch a ride.

For me it is more than that. When she was asked that question she had three choices - Support the push for football, Be neutral or be negative. Now I understand she can not go against the chancellor. So coming out on TV supporting it was out of the question. So that leaves two choices - She should have been neutral, said something like we know their is an active alumni push and left it at that. Instead she took an opportunity to take a shot at those who were trying to make this happen. If she had REALLY been working towards football for 20 years she would not have used that wording. Everyone knows that people that pledge and people that come through are different numbers, plus the pledging was happening while the economy was still ok. And to be clear it was NOT a NNN fund raising attempt, all though there is a thread about it. This was the way that CFI helped gauge the interest in football - in addition to the website, the tshirt sales, flyers and “spontaneous” rally. I love how the AD keeps saying it was a spontaneous student lead rally. In reality it was a well orchestrated even organized and funded by a group of students and alumni with a significant amount of planning. That works against their story though.

It was all about wording. Hard for me to believe you really wanted football when at a crucial moment, when you could have atleast stayed neutral, you went negative. This was a message to the public and supporters that she wasn’t serious about football. She did not jump on the train until it was well out of the station.
