I have only seen you guys play one half of bball this year and I’m wondering who will be guarding our PG, Darius Washington. Defenders who are able to pressure him 3/4th of the court length have given him the most problems.
We might put Leemire on him and he can blind him with the state championship ring he got last year that Wash didn’t.

I hope Washington enjoys those individual honors because he will get another one this year as Freshman of the Year while Leemire gets a conference championship and an NCAA tournament berth.

Probably Baldwin to answer your question. He’s not a great defender, but very adequate to say the least. He probably can’t shut Washington down, as our perimeter D hasn’t been that stellar this year. On the flip side, Baldwin is one of the fastest players in the country with a basketball in his hands - so Washington will need to get back on D. Worst case scenario is if we have to pull Eddie from his normal assignment and latch him onto Washington. I can assure you that if Basden is on Washington, Mr. Washington will have a very long night.
Go Niners! Tame the Tigers!
Basden will be on Carney and Mitch on Washington. Those are not bad matchups for us at all. Either one can give you fits, Mitch just has to be more aggressive on defense, he can really get into an opposing PG’s head when he WANTS to press up on them.

Depends on your definition of “conference championship”. If you mean the regular season, you could be right. If you mean the Tourney, remember that it is being played in the home of the blues.

Good thing for you it’s the home of the blues. You are used to the feeling already.
I seem to recall that the last tourney played in Memphis was won by “another” blue team.

Thats funny because Lutz called him one of the best on the ball defenders in the conference.

Good come back.
It’s going to be fun to see the Niners not only beat the Tigers Wednesday and go to Memphis and win one last title. I could care less if we play Memphis again this year, but if we do meet them in the tourny, it’ll be a great chance to say farewell to Calipari and his misfits!

I think both comments are accurate. Mitch is a good defender, but certainly not GREAT. In my opinion, a GREAT defender can basically shut down his man (i.e. much like a Basden or Galen Young). I don’t see Mitch shutting down Washington. I see Mitch getting a few steals off of him when he applies pressure, but I think Washington will be respectable in his final stats. Of course, I’ll be thrilled if Mitch rattles his cage and picks his pocket all night.
I think Washington and Goldwire met up in a big AAU game last year with Goldwire doing pretty well. Goldwire has been in a slump lately but he knows Washington very well and should be stoked (new NASCAR word) and I expect a big game from him when he is in.
Wash is a big reason their team has played so well of late. He is a totally different player than he was the first couple of months of the season. This is going to be every bit as good a game as Depaul was…I hope the ref’s aren’t as bad.
I’m not sure what the definition of a great defender is. But, Baldwin on the other team’s point has been a good match-up for us all year.
If quick guys give Washington trouble, we’re in good shape. Also, Basden on their other big gun is a plus for us.
A better question is “who is Washington”
