Why do we have so many useless forums?

I’ve always thought that this board had waaaayyy to many forums. I’m finally going to do something about it, that is bitch and complain. Having this many forums is annoying because most of them are graveyards and no one goes there. It also makes our board look pretty dead overall compared to other boards that have a reasonable amount of forums.

My suggestions:

A10 news and notes - a whopping 52 posts. Is there any reason why we can’t post A10 info in the collegiate sports forum?
Coaching carousel - I think we can safely move this to collegiate sports considering Major will be here for at least four years
Make one pro sports forum for all pro sports
Combine the NNN sale and business cards forum

If you don’t want to do that, let’s go the other way and create forums for everything. One for every game we play, one for SCK’s rants, one for arguments about grammar, etc. We could set the record for least posts per forum on the interwebs.

Forums are broken down not just for discussion, but also to make them easier to search/reference. That’s the main reason why we have a recruiting forum.

The A10 forum was created after the season. The post count will go a lot hire as next season ramps up. That’s one that I’m firmly in favor of.

I agree with you on Coaching Carousel… Most years, a single thread will handle it, but with us switching coaches it got nuts.

We used to have just one pro sports forum and it was even more dead than the individual sports forums are. they actually generated some traffic. Certainly not opposed to merging them, but I think it may have the opposite effect of what you intend. The NFL/Panthers usually generate enough traffic in season to justify a football forum.

the FS/Trade forum was my idea and was a total bust. Do with it what you will.

My $.02

I would say a “Sloppy Joes” Forum, but that may cause WAYYYYY to much traffic and slow down the site.

Ironically, the A10 forum was created by poster/s request. As was breaking down the “big 3” for pro sports.

Further proof that you can please some people some of the time but you can’t please all of the people all of the time. For every person griping about too many forums, we get just as many requests to add.

I agree about the coaching one. It was helpful prior to the signing but yes, it can now be combined with Collegiate. And you can make a case that For Sale/For Trade threads can go in Ramblings. It’s not like there are enough of them to clutter that forum up.

This is why we need the grammar forum Nova… :stuck_out_tongue:

:)) :))

FWIW, I did move all relevant posts from FS/FT to Ramblings and updated the Ramblings topic contents, as well as disperse all of the Carousel threads between Collegiate and 49er forums.

Will likely leave it at that. As NA said, the extra forums makes it easier to locate particular threads of interest. And let’s face it, 99% of people visiting this site are either 49er fans or fans of opponents. The former stick around as the latter typically fade away after the game is played. This isn’t really a site geared towards non-49er fans so those that do visit normally register. If they don’t post much, it’s not because of the number of forums or how dead some of them are. Some people just prefer lurking…

More important question, why do we have so many useless posters?

Good changes.

I await an answer to this one…

damn you, i was going to post the same exact thing

Okay, I don’t want to hear any of y’all bitch about what I post again! See, Nova is worse. :))

Are you saying I should have my own forum? It would be a combination of LOST, religion, stocks, politics and the occasional Bobby Lutz bashing. Sounds awesome.

I will admit that I have been judicious is what I have posted in the A-10 Forum since its recent inception. Sure, I could have posted about the Bona players who got in a fight with the local JUCO players, the rumors about Saint Louis players supposedly involved in an on campus sexual assault, former UMass player Tiki Mayben’s guilty plea, etc., but those aren’t really sports-related, though they do involve A-10 (or former A-10) players.

Anyway, do plan to eventually move the A-10 Recruiting threads to the A-10 Forum. Believe me, things will definitely pick up once we get closer to the 2010-11 season. Just ask some patience until then and, of course, others can post in that forum as well, which would be most appreciated!

Thanks!!!

I should have figured you were behind the forum.

I love all of the info you provide Run. I just hate the extra clicks. I do not have this thing you call patience.

We should have an I hate Judy/Phil forum. 37% of our posts could go there.

That sure is a conservative estimate.
