Is having things already in place attractive to coaches? A good coach is usually a pretty confident to borderline cocky. He would have the mentality that he can make the best of any situation and turn any program around if need be. Ofcourse the money has to be there, but the scholarships will be attractive because it will give him the ability to quickly begin to put his signature on the program.
I’d take it. After all, we want a winner.
Next season is the least of my concerns. The talent is there to carry the coach. I’m more concerned about the 3-4 years beyond when we’ll filter in new recruits who were lured in by a staff yet to be named.
Though, I think it’s only fair to give a new coach a few years to cycle players through and I’m prepared to be patient for the payoff down the road.
Even with the talent for next season, I think 20 wins will be tough in a new system with new leadership. Depends on how well our players buy into the new coach’s philosophy and then execute it.
how bad would it suck if a good coach does come here, wins 25 and sweet 16 with Lutz players, then duck outta here for a 1m BCS gig? >:(
In some ways, that’s pretty similar to what Lee Rose did.
You heard it hear first, Over is predicting a Final 4 in the 2011-12 season.
I just want a winner. We have to be realistic with who we are right now. We’re in the A10 and if a coach did make a sweet 16 a time or two then they would bolt as long as we weren’t a BCS team. We don’t pay well enough to keep a really good coach for the long term. Hopefully, this can change soon with football coming into the mix but right now we need a really good coach that wants to make a name for himself as a head coach by winning games and making noise in the tourney. Look at X. Theyve been winning consistently for awhile and have lost Prosser, Matta, and Miller. There’s no reason that we can’t do the same.

'11-12 is 2 seasons.

Yea but it means we’re the runner up in the NIT… I’ll take 67th place.

This almost always takes time to learn, and sometimes seniors that have been playing in a different system never really pick up the new system. Umass last year was a great example of this. Xavier this year was the opposite, mainly because Mack came in with the exact same system.
I would expect transitional pains, so I agree, 20 wins and a high conference finish is unlikely. Might want to temper those expectations. As long as the younger talent sticks around, they’ll help until new recruits start coming in (hopefully). The other problem is that the new coach has 4 scholarships to fill, but a really late start on the recruiting season (unless he brings recruits with him or Davis decides to stick). He might almost be better off saving some of those scholarships for next year’s recruiting.
You give the Niner faithful a Sweet 16 after all these years 1’n done is a total deal!!!
