Will the committee put us in Charlotte

How does this work, will the committee put us in Charlotte for our first round games ?

If we keep playing well I guess we would not have to face a ACC foe in the first two rounds.

we did go to greenville one year. we might have to travel to retain a higher.

I guess they could, but I’d figure on the #1 seed and a #2 seed of these, Duke, WFU, UNC at Chapel Hill, being in Charlotte. They can be in the same area but go to a different regional the next week. If Charlotte was anywhere between a 1-5 then can be close to home but I don’t think the committee will take 3 NC teams. And of course there is the possibility of Gardner-Webb and Winthrop being there too as a low team against them.

If we were an 8/9 see I could see it happening. However given that we could be has high as 4/5 I think we get sent elsewhere.

I had been waiting til (hopefully) a post UL victory to post this, but I’ve had my eye on it for while.

The Selection Committee considers the first 4 seeds in each region to be “protected”. Now, as I understand it, that means they will go out of their way to put these teams in favorable matchups, and as close to home as possible.

Under the old format, the only real shot we’d have at playing here was as an 8/9. But under the new pods system, I understand that they can put anyone here. IF… we could beat UL and fare well enough in the CUSA tourney to move our rpi up into the mid teens, I believe we very well could end up playing here as a #3 or #4 seed, which would be one hell of a treat for our team and our fans.

One last chance to see Eddie, Plav & Sager in our backyard. B)

I hope it happens, and I hope I haven’t jinxed it by discussing it so early.

If we are a 5 seed there is no way we will be in Charlotte. It wouldn’t be fair to a 4 seed to have to play us in Charlotte in a possible 2nd round game. Now, if we are a 3 or 4 seed, it becomes possible.

UNC or Wake will definately be in Charlotte as a 1 seed. So that means a 1,16,8 and 9 will here. The other pod could be Duke with the 2,15,7 and 10 seeds or hopefully us with the 3 or 4. I guess it depends on if they want to send Duke, UNC and/or Wake to the same place.

Just looking at some of the possible sites, if not Charlotte, then Nashville would be the next closest choice but knowing how crazy the committees are we may end up in Boise. Judy is not on the committee this year is she?

What are the dates of the first round games?

Judy is not on the selection committee anymore.

I think the 1-4 seeds are also protected against a homecourt disadvantage in teh first 2 rounds. So if we are a 5 seed, we could potentially face a 4 seed in the second round, so that couldn’t be in Charlotte. To play in Charlotte, we would need to work our way up to a 4 seed by winning our last 3 games and at least making it to the Conf. tourney finals (and we may still need some help form other teams). That would be awesome though.

^ Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I’m guessing we will be in Nashville.

Unless UNC, Duke and WF all fall flat on their faces, we have no shot whatsoever to play in Charlotte. Those 3 are all in line to get 1 or 2 seeds. As Louisiana Niner said, that would bring 2 1/16 and 8/9 (or a 2/15 and 7/10) games to the Coliseum. I’ve seen Nashville, Cleveland, Worchester, and Boise as possible destinations.

This is my understanding.

We really aren’t that far from a 4 right now, but the USF & USM games are gonna hurt our RPI even if we win. We need to win out, and make the CUSA semi’s at least to have a shot at a 4. It may take a CUSA Finals appearance to clinch.

Is UNCC the “Host institution” for the Charlotte site? If you are I believe you would be barred from playing there. I’m not sure how the seeding works but last year Wisconsin was a 6-seed and played in Milwaukee, they still lost to 3-seed Pitt in the second round. I think a UNC-Charlotte vs. ACC matchup would be a good “backyard brawl” made for March Madness TV…good luck on getting a 4-seed.

Davidson is the host institution this year.

Davidson is the host.

We aren’t “UNC-Charlotte”.

That is all.
