wine and cheese alums...

Just an observation but it more and more seems the alumni section resembles that of carolina… it takes alot for them to stand and cheer…make your own observations… with the exception of answering to the 40/niner chant it’s rare that they add much to a home court advantage…sad but true…, cant wait for the tip off so they can sit…agree??

Are you an alumni?

Yes…!

Well, that is because Charlotte isn’t really a college sports atmosphere kind of place. You guys are definately a good team and are worthy of a rowdy crowd…unfortunately, you don’t have a real college type atmosphere.

Halton can have an awesome "college atmosphere" for big games it's one of the best, and the students for the most part are exceptional....we sometimes ask why the team didn't get up for a game, that they took the opposition too lightly, the "homecourt" is more than the team it should reflect the fans as well...

I agree. The funny thing is…ECU kinda has always stunk it up in basketball, and hasn’t generally sold out that many times…but the Minges Maniacs and the fans in the stands give the Pirates a huge homecourt advantage…even though the blow it a lot…it would be worse without the rowdy crowd.

this si one of the reason i wanted to start the charity, so those old farts who never use their season tickets down low could give them to kids who really want to use them. but even when they do come, they really dont watch teh game. it’s hard to get more than a golf clap out of them. i think they see it as a social event and just something to do. i wish they had a little more school spirit and that the local tickets holders would show up to a few more games…

It’s a cycle. Hopefully one day we’ll have the money to sit low on the alumni side and force the current oldies out.

CHEEEEEEEEESE!

Be careful what you wish for. Having a successful team playing to packed houses is not all its cracked up to be.

Many of us can remember the days of flashing our Student ID at the Coliseum or Mine Shaft and walking right in. Those days are gone, although camping out might have been fun every once in awhile.

I live in UCONN territory and as their program has skyrocketed to success, so has the cost of attending games. You can’t buy a season ticket anymore. There are enough high paying donors to their athletic foundation that you have to be a member to have access to season tickets and where you sit depends on how much you give each year. Didn’t give as much this year? You get bumped. Don’t keep up with increasing donations? You get bumped. Can’t make a donation this year? You may be watching on TV. The only way to get in these days is through a friend or a business contact that has an extra ticket or can’t make the game.

For all I know, Charlotte has a similar deal by now but it can’t be as cut-throat as UCONN or DOOK.

Or you may be a deep pocketed "oldie" yourself one day who will have high dollar, lower level seats but be beyond the point in your life where you are going to act like a student. Both sides of the equation are found at every college venue around the country and both are vital to the success of the program. What those "oldies" don't do in spirit, they do by signing a big check over to the athletic foundation. In my opinion, they can behave however they see fit considering what they do financially for our school.

That’s the one big plus I see to our games. It’s very reasonable to get a family of 4 to a good conference game. You go to places like Duke, UNC, State, or any ACC school for that matter and it cost you an arm and a leg just to get in the game. We are more then capable of having a great crowd at Halton. I personally loved the crowd at the Alabama game. As far as the Alumni go, the alumni that I have watched do get into the game. The sad part is that I can point out the ones who do cheer on my hand.

Not meaning to be ass, BUT, if we win 2 National Championships in my lifetime, I’ll pay whatever they want for tickets.

Man, this post really tees me off. I am one of those old farts. I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THE SCHOOL. I did not go there, and don’t work there. I like good basketball and have been a member of the foundation and a season ticket holder for 6 years. I have missed one home game in those six years. Without people such as myself the program would be bankrupt. There is no one on this board who has supported the team more than this “old fart”. over the last 6 years. In the last US NEWS college edition it was reported that a whopping 8% of Charlotte grads contributed to your school. If you get rid of us old farts who will support the program. I take exception to the comment that I sit on my hands. I make as much noise or more than the absentee students. This is not my computer. I am at EJ and I am seniorfan

Tell’em old man! The UNCC program wouldn’t be in existance if it weren’t for the old farts that go to the games!

and no one would ever notice that the ECU basketball "program" exists if they didn't lose to 5-7 postseason teams every year. Get away from your computer and start drinking, the game will be ugly tonight, you will need to be prepared.

And no one would know the UNCC football team existed if they didn’t…oh wait.

Haven’t heard that before, at least all of the ECU, Memphis, Cincinatti, ect fans are all so original, they never make the same point over and over and over. I wish we could field one of the 10 worst teams in division 1 football. You did beat Army though, well done. And your basketball team is absolutely rolling right now, wins over powerhouses St. Andrew’s and Belmont Abbey. You guys should be hands down favorites for the CUSA title in my opinion.

Which is better:

Scenario #1 - An Alumni paying $1,000’s of $'s a year to get four tickets in the lower bowl, working a 60+ hour work week, with a wife and kids and shows up for 70% of the games and cheers when they want

or

Scenario #2 - 18,000+ college kids, taking 15 hours a semester, getting tickets for FREE to an on-campus facility to watch their University play basketball and not claiming every single one of the tickets to every single game.

When Scenario #2 stops happening, then people can start complaining about Scenario #1 and hopefully more then 8% of our grads will give money.

Scenario #1 is far from our worst problem. 4500 students at every game will solve any crowd noise problems at Halton not more cheering from 1,500 Old Farts in the lower bowl.
