We may have received the bid that Chapel Hill declined. Not only did they fail to make the NCAA field, they weren’t even in the last 4 out, which the NCAA publicly revealed for some reason.

10 straight post season appearances is impressive. Especially done with 4 different coaches.

They actually declined a bid? How do you know this? I ask because I hear people here say such things and I can never bring myself to believe that some HC or AD could be so stupidly selfish. It’s not as if players would vote to throw in the towel, right?

I’m ignorant. I need evidence. Do you have a link?

These say Chapel Hill declined the bid.

Declining NIT bids is nothing new. It’s been going on for a long time. Not very often though.

Damn! Players and fans must be beside themselves.

I’ve been a Niners fan for a long time. Been through a lot, and I’ve never considered bailing. But if we ever bailed like that… I don’t know. Someone would have to get fired or something.

We didn’t get CH’s bid. We’re a home team. That means we got in over ALL away teams that are At-Large bids.

And it is bad for the CH players to decline a bid.

It was the players who declined?

Lefty Driesell declined a Maryland NIT bid while my mother was a student there. She really had no reason to make that up when she told me.

I believe her, but I do recognize it’s not the evidence you’re looking for - just more heresay.

Didn’t our Men’s team supposedly decline a NIT or CBI bid?

The reason I know Chapel Hill got a Nit bid is that the highest finishing team not making the NCAA field gets an automatic bid. Having the first round of the NCAA on their home floor may have something to do with them declining, since it may interfere with them having a home Nit game. We know how they think they should never be subjected to playing on the road. I hope they enjoy watching Ga Tech play in the NCAA in Carmichael. ;D ;D ;D P.S. I know that the official line from Chapel Hill is that having to play on the road was no factor in their decision. I also know they have been known to lie.

We have a losing record, so we couldn’t go to the NIT in men, Gill. Our women accepted NIT.

We have a policy against paying, so that is why we didn’t go to CBI or CIT in Lutz’s 19-win season.

Roasty, I remember Lefty declining that bid because it made headlines. This may have happened in '74, when Maryland had the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country and lost the ACC Championship Game in triple overtime to eventual National Champion NC State.
