ok so Charlotte wins 14 of its last 16 games, goes 24-8 overall and cruised through the conference tournament (including a convincing win over Temple). Temple is one of the last teams in and they are seeded 9th. Our seed is 11…WTF??? Complete disrespect if that comes to fruition…
CollegeRPI.com (updated Tuesday, after the win) has us as a 10-seed playing Rutgers in the first round AT RUTGERS. Duke would be the likely 2nd-round opponent. I think 10 seed is about right, but that’s a crappy draw.
Look at the possible 2nd round matchup in the ESPN link. The NCAA thinks that kind of $hit is funny. They should be smacked for doing it, time and time again. They like to pit coaches against their former teams, in-state schools against one another when they aren’t in the same conference. See our 2nd round matchup in 1998 and 1st Round in 2005.

That is a bad draw, but nothing would make me happier then to send Duke home.
What I read on here was that we were an 11 seed before the tourney win. Maybe I misread.
Yes and no… before the tourney final, we were listed as the #11, because the bracketologist picked us to the win final game. I’m not sure we’d be in if we had lost to Richmond.
Braketology is just a bunch of doucebags who have nothing better to do with their time. I would wait until the seeding is actually done before we bitch too much. Although I wouldnt be suprised if we get a crappy seed, given the state of our overal bball program right now, and the women’s lack of history.
We were squarely on the bubble but won the conference tournament. The Temple men did the exact same thing last year and got a 12 seed. Not everybody is out to disrespect our entire athletic department with every bracket projection they write.
I’m sure all projections have us in the 10-12 range because that’s where we belong. The only way to disprove that is to win a game when they get there.

We’ll probably wind up with a worse draw than they’re giving us, if that’s possible. The women’s tournament is convoluted. How do you justify giving a #7 seed two home games? The teams that get #2 and #3 seeds sometimes wind up playing road games in the 2nd round. It’s much worse than the “pod” system, and I did not think that was possible.

What are the circumstances of a #2 seed not playing at "home" in the 2nd round and a #7 seed doing it? How would this happen? I admittedly know very little about the difference between the women's and men's tournaments.

What?! You mean we have to play a bunch of nap… nm

The hosts are pre-determined. I don’t know how far in advance they are selected, but it does happen where a lower seed may host the first two rounds, rather than than the highest seed of the 8-teams that play at that site. Look at the attached brackets from the last two seasons. Old Dominion hosted the first two rounds last season as a #5 seed, and beat Virginia in the second round, who was a #4 seed. Purdue hosted one of the opening round sites, and they were a #9 seed. Thus, Purdue got two home games against higher seeds as a #9 seed:huh:. Tennessee was the #1 seed, and had to play the #9 seed on Purdue’s home court. That’s ridiculous.
Bingo!!! I’m sure, as always with the NCAA, it’s a money-making ploy. The teams hosting are usually contenders for the title on yearly basis, so I assume the NCAA knows they’ll sell more tickets by letting schools host the games and then placing them to play there.
In the past, NCAA Tournament sites in the women’s bracket just went to the top 16 teams (1-4 in each regional). They’re doing pre-determined sites now, but they don’t have the rule that the men’s tournament has that says you can’t play on your home court. The reasoning is (presumably) that people aren’t as apt to travel to see the women’s team in the tournament, so you get all teams as close to home as possible. Predetermined sites helps them do that.

Wow that’s really dumb. Am I remembering correctly that nothing remotely like this happens in the men’s tournament? As I remember, they go pretty out of their way to make sure this stuff never happens in the men’s side. Even like a lower team being placed to close to home. I do remember some beef about a Louisville/Kentucky match up a few years ago. Why would they do so much better with the men’s tournament than the women’s?
I’d also think they’d keep a team from having an overwhelming regional home court advantage, especially a lower seed, but obviously not in the bracket you linked. It actually looks like they screwed over all the #1 seeds but UConn.
UNC has to play LSU in New Orleans??
To a less extent, but Maryland against Standford in Spokane, WA?? Tennessee against Texas A&M in OK City?? You are giving the #2 seed a clear home court advantage. Tennessee was the only one of those 3 to make it past those match ups, and they’ve got Pat Summit at the helm.

As TF said, they don’t have the rule to keep the host team from playing at that site like the men do. This is mainly to garner attendance. The men don’t really have that problem, as their tourney has pretty good attendance wherever they play. Playing a road game as a higher seeded team is bad, though.
