I’ll be honest… we should never be in competition with freakin App for a basketball recruit. Now if we compete with them for football recruits, that’s a different story.
My brother and some friends at App do go to all of the basketball games, but like what’s been said before they complain at the lack of attendance. Their facilities are pretty good though. I would like Lutz to have success, and I would like to see success for app for my brother and friends, a the expense of acc and other in state schools, but never at our expense. I think Lutz would work well for App, but as others have said I wouldn’t want to recruit against him in state, that’s kinda awkward. Plus it would be awkward to schedule them for a payback game for their 2OT win over us 2 years ago.
In what may be the least desirable d1 head bball coaching position open in the country, they looked to find the biggest job whore known to man. Jeeze, I don’t think that guy is ever NOT interested in a job, regardless of what it is.
As far as Lutz goes, I hope he applies and gets that job. I dont care about the awkardness. I do care that he gets a head coaching job since it seems he still wants it. But, also, I’m selfish. I’d like to save our school a 1 million dollar payout to him if we can.
I’m all for Bobby getting the job. I think it would be a good challenge for him and I believe he could do quite well there. I’m not too concerned about recruiting against him as I feel pretty confident we won’t lose out on too many of those battles.
Not sure I’d want to play them though. At the threat of sounding like an ACC elitist, I never saw much value in playing them to begin with but Bobby would most certainly have something to prove and I’d rather not have the ding on our RPI. It’s fun for the fans but I’d like to see us start playing more favorable opponents when possible.
I don’t get the move for Buzz at all. He must want to better his golf game and tan because I can’t think of too many things on the plus side for leaving App to go to UNCW.

Per the Star-News’ Brian Mull, Peterson is expected to bring assistants Jamie Kachmarik and Jason Capel with him. UNCW interim coach Brooks Lee will be retained in some capacity.
Appalachian might go quickly with 10-yr assistant Matt McMahon if Lutz isn’t in their sights. He was a former walk-on under Peterson.

I stand by my argument that Buzz would do well in Charlotte, only because the UNC machine would prop him up in this city to succeed (not because he’s a great coach). When you can give every kid on our team sick summer jobs working at elite businesses and paid well, those kind of benefits pay off on the court. Or get mommy and daddy a 100k job in Charlotte…I suspect he would of got us on TV more somehow too with a UNC connection.
I like Major just fine and hope the best cuz I am a diehard Niner, and one could argue the thread on NNN about Buzz effectively nuked his candidacy here IMO. He got hammered here, and in turn the admin poo pooed him. Had NNN gone nuts over him in a positive way, he would of been interviewed, my 2 cents. I also think NNN has given Dubois a complex regarding his CHP nickname and he wanted to show everyone he isn’t a Carolina lap dog.
