This is where Athletic identity and scholastic identity work against us.

I would say this is correct as the institution (long name) is hosting the tournament, not just a team (short name).

So, the athletic department of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is the host. Not the Charlotte 49ers’ men’s basketball team.

Now my brain hurts :rofl:.

It looks so much worse when presented like that in an advertisement way. SMH.

The SCHOOL is hosting the tournament. That is the name of the school. We have plenty of legit “name issues”, but this one (in this context) is not one of them.

I agree there is no other way they could write it in that context, it’s still a bad look though

I don’t know if they have our athletic logo in the corner of the court, but they did a few years ago when we hosted.

They did. Also saw a large C pick canvas banner covering one of the corner entries to the arena floor. Saw that a lot during free throws.
