Maybe, it was a different day, but the pro-football one I saw seemed the same as the one you posted above.
Nope, it was the last letter in both editions. I checked. There were no other football letters on the page.

OK Mike, I’ll attempt to dig it out of my trash can. I’m not crazy, there was 1 pro and 1 con letter in their one day (must have been Saturday).

We run the ones we get. If you send them to opinion, I never see them (remember, opinion is separate from the newsroom). If you send them to our e-mail, we consider them for sports.

so basically stop sending to opinion and start sending to you?

Sunday there was one pro and one con.

Football would enliven campus on weekends

In response to “Ex-chiefs no fans of 49ers football” (Feb. 22):Does C.D. Spangler realize Ivy League universities have been playing football for more than 100 years without detriment to their educational prestige? Football at UNC Charlotte is a no-brainer. It is the only way it will become a big-time university.

If Mr. Spangler has any doubts, have him walk around campus on the weekend and hear the echo.

Here’s a better use for football dollars

Kudos to William Friday and C.D. Spangler for their opposition to a football program at UNCC. Perhaps those millions of dollars could be better spent on physics and chemistry instructors who can speak intelligible English.

Chuck Pinckney

Charlotte

That’s three letters on the topic.

If they’re gonna run in sports, send them to obsports@charlotteobserver.com. I think we should move on to another topic beyond Friday and Spangler, though.

end of story.

Thanks Mike. I knew I wasn’t crazy!

Mike, this is not the first time this has happened recently, but the most recent example. My Sunday Observer (Union County edition) had NO MENTION of the Charlotte baseball game on Saturday in the Sports Section. I assume the game made it in the City edition.???The “College Baseball” section in my paper had several Top 25 game stories (blurbs) as well as several others, including App St and Belmont Abbey’s games. Yet, no Charlotte mention AT ALL, anywhere in the entire section!! Keep in mind, this was a Saturday afternoon home game, no less. How do you explain/excuse that one? I can’t wait…

:unhappy:
Also no mention of our nationally top 5 golf team although other teams in the state not even ranked did receive mention. The regionals haven’t started yet. So maybe we’ll get something this week. I’m very close to that program and was bragging about team to someone last week and he called me a liar.

919R and Chipper

Quit subscribing the disturber! I almost can guarantee you guys whatever explanation will be the usual “beat around the bush” and you won’t like what will be said anyway.

The first part of this is false, as far as the printed Observer. We wrote ONLY about the Niners and Hedin the day the pairings were announced, and ran the full pairings in scoreboard.

The second part is very true. The regional hasn’t started yet. Patience, as they say, is a virtue.

It was in the city edition, as the headline.

It should have been in there in the early edition.

Mike, I agree it SHOULD HAVE BEEN, but it was not. Who’s job is it to make those decisions and if its not you, then does this person not answer to you?

I’ll have that person summarily fired, then killed.

Kill him, then fire him for being dead on the job.

I'll have that person summarily fired, then killed.

Maybe you should just kill their spirit.

What, and be haunted by my actions forever? No way …

Sweet! Bought time we got results around here…

:hammer: If you are going to do something. Do it right.

Mike, I was actually trying to ask a serious question, but obviously you have no valid “excuse”, so you make this comment.

When I give reasons, they’re excuses to you and others on here. I don’t know why it wasn’t in, it should have been, it was in city edition, so obviously someone was paying attention. I suppose I should get on them for not paying attention sooner. They might not have had what they needed at deadline, or time to go searching for it (it would have been among about 15 duties for that person Saturday night), or whatever. But readers don’t care. They just want what they want, and we didn’t have it. We should have. Beating up an overworked employee won’t help, because obviously they knew it needed to be in – they put it in the headline for city edition.
