Your Observer questions answered ...

MIke, I seriously wish you and everyone else at your company the best in dealing with this financial crisis. That same wish actually goes to everyone on this board.

Jim, wasn’t there supposed to be a blog entry about Braswell’s visit? Just wondering if that’s still on (the entry, not the visit).

Edit: It’s up now.

Somewhere around '95 or '96.

Somewhere around '95 or '96.

I believe it was a few years before this (or alteast I believe he was IN school while I was—I remember Jim from some Poli Sci classes). I graduated in 1991.

He’s right. Jim graduated in December of 1991.

Mike, looking at the story of the top 15 Panthers, how in the world does Chandler exclude Steve Beuerlein? Surely he is one of the top 15 players. And Peppers as number 2, are you kidding me? Delhomme deserves to be at #2 before Peppers. I’m sure I"m not the only one that thinks Peppers is a bit overrated.

It’s such a hard thing to do, but I agree with you. I would say:

 1. Steve Smith
 2. John Kasay
 3. Mike Minter
 4. Sam Mills
 5. Julius Peppers
 6. Wesley Walls
 7. Muhsin Muhammed
 8. Steven Davis
 9. Jake Delhomme

Edited: Over40 was right. I meant to include Wesley Walls.

Wesley Walls?

It’s certainly a subjective list, based on Charles’ internal criteria and biases.

If any of you would like to post your own, visit the Panthers blog and post your top 15. We’re compiling those into a fans version for later this week.

Mike P,

Thanks for the link in the shoutbox. Not sure why you would paste a link that is from January 2008 about what signifies a mid major (http://www.midmajority.com/2008/01/the-red-line.php#). I’m guessing because you enjoy these things.

Mid major or not, here are the facts from that article:
Based on their numbers, we are below the “financial support red line” to be considered a major conference. However, they do list the men’s basketball budget. The cutoff seems to be 2.0 million. This would mean we are a major conference in mens basketball atleast and ahead of Conference USA. Aacording to this logic, if it’s soley based on dollars, then we should be considered a major basketball conference.

By the way, the same article states "you don’t expect the small-market Rays to hang with the big-bucks Yankees, do you?..I’d take the Rays this year…so I guess everything isn’t decided on dollars after all.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: You think maybe Mike had that heavily biased link bookmarked so he could come over here and tell us we’re not worthy? Apparently, be didn’t realize we still qualified as MAJOR.

My question for Mike: Is there another sports editor anywhere in the country that goes on the local team’s message board to tell then they’re not worthy and chase away their business?

clt is quite pleased with charlotte.com right now. the charlotte.com colour scheme matches the unc ch pic and there is a write up about the unc-ch and unc-p barnburner. but the o continues to call unc ch “unc” dispite the fact it is incorrect.

great work o.

According to the paper today, Observer will be doing college bball previews each day this week through Saturday. Davidson/Curry was today. From memory, they’ll do Wake, Duke, State, local conferences. Charlotte is Friday. North Carolins is Saturday.

But today there was an article on N Carolina’s exhib and another one on being a favorite in the ACC.

So the question is: Will there be anything on Charlotte before Friday or is Friday the only thing we’ll get before the first game?

How about some info on tickets, big games this week so people have time to buy tickets before Friday/Sunday? Ticket prices and info was in the Davidson story.
