The HS guy my parents paid to drive me to elementary school and my sister to Jr. HS had an RX7. I used to sit on the hump between the seats. Just thinking about that now makes me claustrophobic, but back then it was nothing to me.
The rx-7 was a beautiful car and was a freaking blast to drive. If you ever owned any rx7, you probably would love to have it back or another
High school daily driver was 1985 Dodge Lancer until that got replaced by a 1990 (??) Ford Escort.
In undergrad (SDSU), I got a Mazda B2300 that started out in Hawaii and was basic bones (manual, 2-60 A/C, bench seat). I had that for grad school (Charlotte) until I got a 2003 Neon.
The B2300 and Neon are my favorites out of that group. My current Dart is pretty solid and wouldn’t mind having a manual transmission version.
I’m ashamed to say.
I had a '78 VW Rabbit for a while, and even drove a 72 Porsche 911 targa for a bit (caught on fire).
But my first stick with it car was an 87 Toyota AE86 SR5.
This one isn’t mine - I had better wheels, but otherwise it’s similar. great little car.
First Car: 1968 Mustang
College Car: Suzuki Swift Gti - Ugly little car, but man was it fun to drive that slow car fast.
Favorite car: Mini Cooper S Convertible. I bought one the first year they made them as the BMW Minis started taking off. I plan on getting back into one when they release their electric in 2025.
After my first car ‘85 Nissan 300zx manual classic, for college I then transitioned to a white ‘96 Dodge Avenger with the legendary white wheels to complete the look. Going from a 85 manual to a 96 automatic really felt like luxury.
I then bought the 2006 Acura TL from brother which I still have and now own “My favorite” car is the 2019 Hyundai Sante Fe. I think I like newer cars as I get them.
68 mustang is my favorite model year, especially a convertible. It’s boss
1st car… 1978 Rally Sport Camaro… Gold on Red (not black like the picture).
Needed something a little more dependable for college… So I got a 1987 Burgundy Firebird.
But my favorite 1st car is the 1st car I bought with my 1st job after college. The newly designed 1994 Formula Firebird. Metallic Forest Green with the Corvette engine. It was gorgeous, loud and could fly!! My then girlfriend now wife called it the Batmobile.
Those LT motors were bad as and sounded amazing…. Something about that 8 rumble!
Yes. The last year for the 280 and Datsun. However, there were already some emblems on the car that said something like “Datsun made by Nissan”.
I’d love to get a classic Datsun Z car from the 70s and modernize the power train. Some kind of mild hybrid aimed as much as power / performance as efficiency.
78 mustang. Only good thing was previous owner blew the 4 cyl and had a v6 put in. Car was fast but clutch would kick you in the butt
This was the car my wife was driving when I met her in college. She was always cooler than me…
I see TRL and I have similar taste in cars.
First car - 1989 Ford Taurus
College Car - 1997 Camaro SS Convertible M6 (pictured with replacement regular hood, salad shooter wheels, and debadged) thats my actual car in Squires parking lot.
Favorite Car - 1998 Camaro Z28 M6 (Bought senior year of college and currently own)
thats my actual car at the top of east deck.
I too had a maroon Firebird with gold wheels, but mine was a V6 and a total beater I paid $500 for.
Bonus, current daily also one of my favs
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk V8
Stock photo, but mine is virtually identical except bigger and better tires now and i have a roof rack.
NC, What do you think of the new GC redesign?
I am shopping and I was considering a GC 4XE, though the price is a little eye watering.
I dig the interior though. IMO huge improvement over the last gen. Though the last gen exterior was pretty great.
I really like the new interior too from the pics I’ve seen. That said, I’m still quite happy with my interior five years later. The build quality is much better than most American cars. Only thing I’ve never really cared for is the gauge cluster. Lots of soft touch surfaces. I have the leather with suede inserts in the seats. Heated rear seats is a nice bonus. I’ve also had a 2005 GC and a 1998 GC, and they were both pretty nice for their time. When I got rid of my 2005 in 2017, the interior had held up incredibly well, was almost like new still, but definitely cheaper than my current one and the new ones.
I like the overall shape of the new GCs, but tbh, I hate a couple of the design elements. I like the front a lot, but I despise from the C pillar back, it looks very cheap for an expensive vehicle, reminds me of the Compass.
