From the Raleigh News & Observer…
MEN’S GOLF

DEACONS WIN REGIONAL: Wake Forest picked the right time to play its best golf of the season. The Deacons posted a 27-over 879 to win the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio, by 10 strokes over Oklahoma State.

Wake has won three NCAA regional titles since 2005. The Deacs won back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006.

Brendan Gielow carded a 3-over 74 in the final round to finish in a tie for second place with a 2-over, total of 215. Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway finished one stroke ahead of Gielow and Penn State’s Robert Rohanna.

Dustin Groves posted two birdies in the final round to finished fourth (216).

Raleigh’s Webb Simpson carded a 9-over 80 in the final round to finish tied for 22nd place. The senior entered the day tied for fourth. Simpson finished the three-day event with a 10-over 223.

Georgia Tech failed to qualify.

TAR HEELS FAIL TO ADVANCE: North Carolina fired a 6-over-par 294 in the final round of the NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash., to finish with an 895 total, good for a 15th-place finish, but it was not enough for the Tar Heels to advance to the NCAA championship.

Tar Heels’ junior Chase MacFarland fired an even-par 72 on Saturday to tie for 25th place.

N.C. STATE, DUKE DONE: N.C. State and Duke both finished their seasons at the NCAA East Regional at Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Wolfpack compiled a 4-under 280 total on Saturday to finish in 14th place. Matt Hill led State with a 1-under 70 to finish in 49th place overall.

Duke shot a final-round 295 to finish 19th overall with an 11-over 863.

Senior Michael Schachner and freshman Matthew Pierce paced the Blue Devils in the final round with 1-over 72s. Pierce finished tied for 35th overall.
A paper in Vermont, home of Niner Trevor Murphy, had this article: Murphy's hot hand guides 49ers to finals

Some people just don’t read their media guides. Everyone of them say what to call us.

:shades:

We finished 7th in the regionals last year too, and we all know how that worked out. We led the Finals for a while and finished Third in the Nation. This team’s been in this spot before and they know the course. Any golfer out there knows how valuable those 2 advantages can be.

It's one thing if it's a Vermont newspaper, it's another when it's the semi-local W-S Journal who use the wrong name just to be asses.
