2011 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel

I want to know who Hewitt’s agent/attorney is for making such a sweet deal.

Pelphrey… http://www.nwaonline.com/news/2011/mar/13/pelphrey-fired-head-basketball-coach/?latest

Ga Tech has had the 6th most Mcdonald’s All-Americans join their program, pretty fertile recruiting grounds in GA.

Lutz to Arkansas? Im not kidding. Kinda weird if it happened since he was set to follow pelphrey at USA

Wonderd if any of arkansas guys will decommit?

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/8[/quote]I don’t know about that, but Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports says sources indicate that Arkansas is targeting Mike Anderson of Missouri. That would put Melvin Watkins into a funny spot. Does he have a shot at taking over at Missouri? He was Associate HC under Quinn Snyder, and interim HC when Snyder resigned until they hired Anderson. He is the Assoc HC now under Anderson. Has he sufficiently rehabilitated himself from the Texas A&M days? Would Anderson take him to Arkansas with him, and if offered, does that make Missouri more inclined to try and keep him to stabilize things? Good luck to Coach Wat.

Gotta think no shot of that. Lutz’s next head coaching gig will be at a mid-major school. Also would have to come after some Iowa St. success I would imagine.

Would love to see him get a shot, but Mike Anderson is the guy I’m sure they want.

Why in the world would you leave Mizzou for Ar-Kansas?

Aside from Nolan Richardson’s tenure, what is appealing about that job?

I would think Mizzou would be higher profile.

Not only that, but Arkansas ran Nolan Richardson out of town in an unfriendly manner. With Anderson being a Richardson disciple, I wouldn’t think that would be somewhere he would want to go.

Ressurected the Tulane program after the Hot Rod Williams point shaving scandal (Players were taking cash and cocaine to throw games. Hot Rod was the ring leader). Program shut down for 4 years. Former assistant at GT and has ACC coaching experinece. Cant imagine GT going this way however.

nvm

No argument from me. I was just going off what 2k posted about Goodman’s tweet. But Nolan is a mainstay at Arkansas games, much like Wooden was for UCLA.

If he goes I think it might be because Nolan asks him, not unlike Roy going to the Tarholes because Dean begged him.

Missouri and Arkansas seem fairly comparable to me. You could argue that the southeast has better weather and better recruits. But mostly I’d think it would come down to $, whoever makes the better offer.

No idea why Nolan would want Anderson to go there after what happened to Richardson on and off the court, but Anderson does have Richardson’s blessing. Money is the biggest factor, but also the turmoil that the Big 12 conference itself is in. The two schools the Big 12 is losing don’t hurt their basketball strength, but the conference itself is still on shaky ground and nobody knows what’s going to happen going forward. If you can add a few years onto your contract, either at Missouri or by going to Arkansas, that’s another reason to consider it.

Gillespie to Tx A&M and Tubby Smith to Arkansas? http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/03/14/2920337/texas-tech-talking-to-gillispie.html

Jeff Capel fired by Oklahoma.

Go ahead and list the next 4. None of those are happenin’.

Tubby Smith could happen, he’s already talked to Arkansas. I don’t see what Fox has to gain by going there. He’s in a great place to pluck elite talent at UGA.

Rick Barnes??? That is absolutely, certifiably insane.

Sean Miller, while not as crazy sounding because he just started there, is in reality equally as insane an option as Rick Barnes.

Tubby Smith I could see but I don’t know why he’d do it.

Mark Fox is believable. UGA basketball might as well be a “mid-major.” If Mark doesn’t go to NCSU, he’ll end up somewhere better than UGA I bet, unless UGA is prepared to spend the money on keeping a good bball program.

I actually had a State fan explain the Miller situation because I said the same thing. Apparently word on the street is that he wants to come back to the east coast. His buyout is only $500,000.

It makes sense, AZ had to make him three offers before he finally left Xavier.

…because making your coaching search public to please your fanbase worked so well last time.
