Ok…so I’ve read in several threads how the sky is falling due to recent and projected releases/transfers. But I’ve seen no love for the guys we have on roster that have decided (thus far) to stick it out with the new staff and our 49ers. Besides we have a few transfers that I think would like to contribute and not loose another year.
I’ll let others make a list but I’m excited for this next chapter of my 49er fandom to begin. I’ll start by saying of course Dorn is a key player but I’m also eager to see what Braxton and Sullivan will be able to contribute with an increased role and/or playing time. I also thought Benny brought flashes of offense and showed signs of being more than a one dimensional player.
Looking forward to Price teaching BO proper shooting form. That crooked side step thing has got to go. It’s not at ugly as MKG’s shot, but its close. Fix his shot and he’s a player that could show a ton of improvement.
Benny will never contribute consistently, even for this low talent squad. He’s just not a D1 athlete and never will be.
Even though it may be expected, it is a bit disheartening with so many players leaving or not coming. However, this cast did have a losing year last year and a housecleaning is probably for the best.
I’m looking forward to some actions by Price and his staff to give some confidence that they know what they are doing and have a plan. Hopefully there will be some word soon of some quality players heading our way.
This is a serious question but does anyone feel like this staff might be similar to SMU’s? It is known Larry Brown doesn’t want to recruit. I am not saying Price is that way but can we reasonable assume the assistants will do most of the recruiting and Price’s appeal will be his knowledge and experience?

Yes, because no “shooters” have ever really helped any team.
Well the good thing about next year is that we’re going to have a veteran heavy team! And we’re going to be tall as ***** :))
Braxton Ogbueze JR G 6’1
Ivan Benkovic JR G 6’7
Bernard Sullivan SR F 6’8
Cameron Blakely JR F 6’9
Benas Griciunas JR C 7’0
Gavin Wilson SR G 6’1
Cameron Pappas SR G 6’1
Mitch Warner SR G 6’3
Reid Aube JR F 6’6
Count me in as seriously intrigued as to what we do next year. We couldn’t win for **** with good recruiting and Alan Major as head coach, so we might as well start all over and have Price bring in his own players.

There are 100 Division 1 players who shot 43% or better from behind the arc this year. Benny shot 37%, no list that I can find goes past the top 100, but I’m guessing his 37% puts him in the 400-500 range. So is he really a “shooter”? Couple that with the fact that he brings absolutely nothing else to the game. I stand by my statement.

I think if we run him off screens he would become more valuable rather than depending on rotating the ball to get the open shot.

Actually when I watched him, he seemed to struggle more with coming off of screens and making shots. He doesn’t have the quickest release, and it appeared that he made most of his shots when he was standing with his feet already set, and the ball was rotated to him. It didn’t appear that any of our shooters were adept at shooting off of screens. Hopefully, this is the type of thing where coach Price will really be of a benefit to our players, by helping them become better shooters off of screens and developing quicker releases.

LOL I felt the opposite. His release was so slow that the D seemed always rotate back before he could shoot clean.
Basically I think what we are saying is when he is wide open he is pretty good lol

He had Braswell in there drawing the defense and this opened him up more often. We also were setting much better picks that year, even when we did set one this year it almost never actually impeded the defender. I’m not sure why they were so bad, but it probably relates to the general lack of maximum effort or execution in aspects of the game not related to a player’s own scoring stats.
I think Benkovic could have a role on the team, but if he’s in there we generally have to play zone. His defense doesn’t look all that bad to me (though maybe that’s in comparison to the defense of our other former players), but opposing coaches almost always tell their players to attack his D using the dribble drive. It was as blatant as when Ian Anderson used to play for us. So they’re clearly seeing something on the tape that suggests he’s a really weak defender.
I’m sure when Benny is shooting around by himself he probably doesn’t miss. However, you could go to the SAC on any given night when I was in school and find 10 guys that can do that. He moves at a snails pace, he has a slow release, he can only shoot when he is already squared to the basket, which are rare opportunities at the D1 level. He cant shoot when catching the ball with his back to the basket, he doesn’t shoot off the dribble, and he cant shoot off screens. Nobody on this years team played defense so by default he’s a liability on that end of the floor. Dee Tolliver and Chris Dwiggins were much better players than Benny and they are basically viewed as scrubs on our tourney teams.
At the rate things are going he may be our backup power forward next year. Forget the guard minutes. We have papas warner and Wilson to fill out the backcourt
