2017 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel

Jeff Goodman now reporting Butler (and former Gardner-Webb) HC Chris Holtmann has emerged as the frontrunner for OSU.

Per Jeff Goodman, Ohio State has hired Holtmann. 8-year deal worth $3 million per season. From Big South COY in 2013 to Big East COY in 2017 to the Big Ten!

New coach at Butler will inherit a top 25 Big East program.

Per the Indianapolis Star, Butler AD Barry Collier has interviewed Holtmann assistants Terry Johnson and Ryan Pedon.

In addition, expected to be interviewed are former Butler assistants LaVall Jordan, head coach at UW Milwaukee, and Micah Shrewsberry, an assistant for the Boston Celtics. Jordan is also a former Bulldog hoopster who played for Collier during his tenure as the Butler coach.

No surprise with the candidates as the past five BU coaches were promoted from the Bulldogs staff.

Jon Rothstein reporting that Butler in ongoing discussion with alum LaVall Jordan to become the school’s next coach.

Now reporting it’s a done deal.

As such, opens up a vacancy at UW Milwaukee.

Jeff Goodman reporting Northwestern assistant Pat Baldwin will be the new coach of Milwaukee.

It has been more than seven years since Bobby Lutz was a head coach. We are apparently not a school that gets you to the next level. Only three of our men’s coaches have ever moved to another school as a head coach–Bill Foster went to Clemson ('75), Lee Rose to Purdue ('77), and Melvin Watkins to Texas A&M ('98).

Eh, Mullins coulda went somewhere I believe had he wanted. Not sure how big but I think he could have moved up.

Typically a fired coach isn’t moving up (IE Lutz) and I’m pretty sure everybody knows AM wasn’t employable.

And for the record, Clemson, Purdue and A&M were pretty good steps up. At least $$$$ wise if nothing else.

Odom

Somewhat ironic.

Anyway, to get back on topic, the Baldwin hire fills the final vacancy in D-I men’s basketball.
