2017 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel

New Mexico is hiring New Mexico State’s HC, Paul Weir.

Sounds like Lobos had a time finding someone as Joe Dooley (FGCU), Steve Forbes (East Tennessee), Scott Cross (UT Arlington) and James Borrego (NBA Spurs assistant) were mentioned as candidates before Weir took the position. In addition, read that UNM athletics is running a $1.5 million deficit, no doubt in part due to falling attendance at the Pit.

Longtime Presbyterian coach Greg Nibert resigned today. During his 28 year tenure, led PC through the NAIA, NCAA D-II, and eventually D-I as a member of the Big South.

Two more vacancies filled as LIU Brooklyn will hire former UMass coach Derek Kellogg and New Mexico State goes with Wichita State assistant and ex-Bowling Green coach Chris Jans.

NC State announced compensation package for new coach Kevin Keatts today - 6 years at $2.2 million per year with the possibility of an additional $1 million per season in bonuses if certain benchmarks are met.

Former Maryland standout and NBA player Juan Dixon is the new coach of Coppin State in Baltimore. Spent last season as the HC of the women’s team at D-II District of Columbia and as special assistant to Mark Turgeon at Maryland prior to that.

Also within the MEAC, interim HC Lamont Franklin has resigned at Florida A&M.

Jeff Goodman reporting that Dalonte Hill has been hired as an assistant by new Austin Peay coach Matt Figger. Both served as assistants under Frank Martin at K-State.

Per the following, Hill claims to have stopped drinking last year:

Lets go Pee!!!

Dalonte won’t get a lot of sympathy around here but if he’s conquered his drinking, good for him.

Something of a stunner at THE Ohio State University!

Other lists pretty much mirror those named by Thamel. Notable additions include OKC Thunder coach Billy Donovan and Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

This could set up a chain of changes over the next few weeks. It is very late to be making a change.

This will likely put our previous coach back on the market.

From what I’ve read, Buckeyes AD Gene Smith was concerned about several things that had been trending negatively - recruiting (especially within state of Ohio and Midwest), player retention (all 5 members of lauded 2015 class ranked #5 by 247Sports no longer with program), Matta’s health (bad back and limited use of right foot), conference standing (finishes of 5th, 6th, 7th and 10th the past 4 seasons) and postseason (last NCAA bid in 2015).

Jeff Goodman reporting that Creighton coach Greg McDermott meeting with Ohio State. Goodman also reporting that Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg is a candidate for the Buckeyes job.

clt hopes that osu doesn’t call Major. He has this program on the upswing.

Some people have speculated that if any program could snatch chris mack away from xavier it would be ohio state. I guess we’ll find out how true that idea is.

With McDermott turning down Buckeyes, focus has reportedly turned to Golden State assistant Mike Brown.
