2018-19 C-USA Basketball Predictions, Scores, and Rankings

C-USA players of the week (12-17-2018):

B. J. Stith, SR 6-5 G, ODU - POTW

Chris Mullins, FR 6-3 G, Rice - FOTW

Stith puts up 30 pts and 12 rebs as ODU (8-3) wins 63-54 at Richmond tonight, so probably another POTW coming as well as early front-runner status for C-USA POY.

Meanwhile, another solid game for Bassey - 16 pts and 10 rebs - but still one more L for WKU (5-6) in 80-74 loss at Belmont.

clt didn’t realize that wku was in Gaston county last night. Would have stopped by to watch

C-USA players of the week (12-24-2018):

Ahmad Caver, SR 6-2 G, ODU - POTW

Efe Odigie, FR 6-11 F, UTEP - FOTW

Looking over the league schedule and seven more OOC games before conference play kicks off in earnest on January 3rd, though two C-USA tilts will be played on December 29th - North Texas at Rice and Southern Miss at LA Tech.

Here’s how the teams rank per the latest NET.

42 North Texas (12-1)
72 ODU (10-3)
98 LA Tech (10-3)
109 Southern Miss (8-4)
132 Marshall (7-5)
148 WKU (6-6)
170 UAB (7-5)
171 UTSA (5-7)
187 FAU (8-4)
209 FIU (9-3)
238 UTEP (5-6)
260 Rice (5-8)
270 Charlotte (3-8)
304 Middle Tennessee (3-9)

Both preseason favs WKU and Marshall have the chance to advance their respective rankings - Hilltoppers host #4 Wisconsin on 12-29 while the Herd travels to #2 UVA on New Year’s Eve.

Parrish and Norlander in agreement on predicting ODU will win the C-USA title.

UNT becoming the class of the league in football as well as basketball is not something I could have predicted a couple years ago. I would love for folks to be saying that about us in 2020.

Conference play begins today with a couple of games:

North Texas @ Rice, 3pm

Southern Miss @ LA Tech, 5pm

Plus OOC games vs Big Ten foes:

FAU @ Illinois, 3pm

#15 Wisconsin @ WKU, 5:30pm

Finals - Saturday, December 29th

North Texas 103 (1-0)
Rice 87 (0-1)

Southern Miss 56 (0-1)
LA Tech 71 (1-0)

FAU 73 / OT
Illinois 71

#15 Wisconsin 76
WKU 83

Toppers brought their A-game vs the Badgers. Will be interesting to see which WKU team shows up in Halton on Thursday - the one that has beaten West Virginia, Arkansas, Saint Mary’s, and Wisconsin or the one that has lost to Troy, Indiana State, and Missouri State. Hmm…

#4 Virginia lit it up today versus Marshall, whalloping the Herd 100-64. That marks the end of the non-conference portion of the season, with C-USA play kicking off in earnest on Thursday and Saturday with seven games each day.

C-USA players of the week (12-31-2018):

Jhivvan Jackson, SO 6-0 G, UTSA - POTW

Charles Bassey, FR 6-11C, WKU - FOTW

This must be a misprint, because I thought the Pack Line was a low scoring offense. If we are going to be scoring more than 80 points per game next year, I am going to need to rethink my approach to being a fan.
