2019 Week 13: Marshall

The students were chanting “You can’t stop us” very loud late in the 4th.

I hope cusa doesn’t get their panties in a wad again because Charlotte fans are being “rude” to their precious “chosen” anointed teams, and ban students from being behind the opponent’s bench like they did after our sincy postgame basketball par-tay some years ago.

Pretty sure this is the first year they’ve allowed the students to be behind the away team bench again. I’m all for some students harassing the away team. One of the best parts of college athletics!

Something that I just realized.

I knew Healy would have a talented team that could win some games this year but I assumed with our depth concerns we would have to play very efficient and error free football to win alot of games or to win against certain teams.

This was the case in a couple of our wins…but…the most impressive thing about the Marshall game now in retrospect (at least to me) is that we overcam an awful start. First 3 possessions resulted in an interception, a fumble and a blocked punt for a TD. We used to have no prayer at coming back after that to win…much less against a quality opponent.

But in spite of that start…we beat the league leading team…and did so ultimately convincingly.

Wow…how far we have come to be able to do that!

Unreal.

Our last 3 wins all seem to be this way. It’s almost like we have a coaching staff and team culture now that goes into the locker room, locks-in and says to themselves “we aren’t just going to let this happen” then comes out and puts boots up asses in the 2nd half!

Quite a difference from Lambert-ball.

And we used to be the team that never seemed to make adjustments for the 2nd half or were out-adjusted in the 2nd half. Not with this staff. We play our best ball after halftime it seems. We finally have the staff that out-adjusts the opponent.

While I wish we didn’t have to come from behind in all these games, I get the sentiment. And it is teaching our underclassmen how to win, which is the hardest part of putting all the pieces together. Finishing games. If we can find a way to come out flying against ODU, I have no doubt we’ll put them in the ground.

Thanks for posting. Go Niners.

I think " Healy coaches them up" is the understatement of this first season.

Is this what being relevant feels like? It’s been so long since we’ve part of the conversation.

Definitely enjoying the ride but part of me wonders where this defense would be with Deluca and Harris healthy.

Will Harris be able to apply for medical redshirt? I know Deluca has not had a redshirt so he will be good if he does not grad transfer

Fugate has played at an elite level all year

The rumor mill is that Harris has issues that may prevent him from continuing a football career. I have no facts, but that has been mentioned more than once by others.

Can’t deny that he has played great but losing two all conference guys who play huge leadership roles on the field is never ideal.

Coach Healy included senior day tweets for both Harris and Deluca. Not sure if this was just a formality for all seniors or if they will not be back next season.

IMHO, I think marshall should de-emphasize the playing for the 75 theme and move more toward the future. It’s nice to always recognize that sad time in their history but it borders on obsession and has got to be depressing to go so emotionally deep into that every year. I know all about win one for the Gipper effect, but I think moving on would be more inspiring and emotionally uplifting to a team and fans for a better mindset to win games. My two cents.

I guess you have to sell what you’ve got. This represents a difficult time in their history, but it invokes the movie and rallies people around something they can feel good about.

The present is bleak. Huntington is known as the “Overdose Capital of America”. Their addiction rate is 8 times the national average. Your chance of being a victim of crime in that city is 1 in 17. The population in Huntington has been dropping steadily since 1950 and today is about half of that high mark.

The future could actually be worse. Marshall’s enrollment is declining, and I suspect as the use of coal is reduced or banned the demise of that area will only accelerate.

Finally getting these up. Toby Creek is safe!
